Nest 25 boiled! Lots of baby turtle tracks were found by our morning driver Sue. This nest was in question because of the the tide's effects and sand that was on top of the nest. We collared it Tuesday - Happy happy turtle day!

Holden Beach Turtle Watch Program, founded in 1989, monitors & protects the sea turtle population on Holden Beach. This conservation work for protected sea turtles on Holden Beach is authorized by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission (ES Permit 25ST11).

AUGUST 18, 2025 • RED FLAG NOTICE

Effective immediately and until further notice, Beach Warning Flag conditions have been upgraded to 🟥RED FLAG🟥

This overrides the current forecast by the US National Weather Service, due to locally observed conditions which include several large rip currents being actively monitored by the Beach Safety Unit.
Additionally, the previously issued 🟪PURPLE FLAG🟪condition has been CANCELED.

During a 🟥RED FLAG🟥 there no “safe” water depth identified. The beach areas are still open to enjoy, but ocean swimming and in-water activity should NOT take place.
