EBR Travel is a home-based travel agency, affiliated with Travel Planners International, owned and operated by Eileen Radcliffe. EBR Travel is a full-service travel agency, booking destinations worldwide for family vacation travel, honeymoons, escorted tours, cruises, and group travel. With demand for travel advisor services increasing, I welcomed my former colleague, Rachel Devlin, as an associat

e advisor in April 2022. Rachel works under the RD Travel brand, specializing in Europe, the Caribbean, luxury cruises, and exotic destinations. I have also welcomed two additional associates, Kristin Tornofoglio and Tracy Cheifetz, under the EBR Travel brand. I have been in the leisure travel industry for over 30 years, with extensive sales and management experience. Personal travel experience includes destinations throughout the US, Europe, and the Caribbean, as well as numerous cruises, Kenya, and Costa Rica. I have four children, and love that I can work from home around their schedules, doing something that I love. I have one child with Down syndrome, and two with multiple life-threatening food allergies. I love traveling with my family and giving the kids new experiences, but it can be challenging. I understand these challenges and love to help others with similar circumstances navigate the options and plan a vacation that works for their family!

Memorial Day is the unofficial kick off of summer, and we are gearing up for lots of travelers over the next few months! If you are headed to Europe, keep in mind the new EES (Entry/Exit System) being used as most European Union airports.

EES replaces traditional passport stamping with a digital entry system that includes taking travelers photos, fingerprints, and a scan of the passport. It is required for all non-EU citizens. While the process itself is easy, lines have been long as airports adapt to the change. How long depends on how many flights are arriving at the same time, and can vary greatly throughout the day.

Pack your patience and give yourself plenty of time whenever flying into or out of an EU airport over the next few months. What you'll experience once out of the airport will be well worth the wait!

Traveling to Holland in springtime, and particularly visiting the iconic tulips of Keukenhof, does not disappoint! I cannot stop looking at the gorgeous tulip pictures from my recent visit (and wondering how to get a tiny part of that in my own yard)!

Keukenhof is open for approximately two months, from mid-March to mid-May, with exact dates changing every year. Almost 1.5 million visitors show up to see the stunning displays.

Many ask when is the best time to visit Keukenhof, and I think the answer is that there is no exact right, or wrong, time to go. The gardenders do an incredible job maintaining the park, and as the tulips change, the wow factor does not! The height of the tulip bloom is usually in mid-April, but weather plays a big role in that and it can be earlier or later. Unless you live locally, it is hard to plan to be there on a day where the the bloom is perfect and the sun and temps meet your preferences. If you’re traveling with a tour group or on a cruise, you may not get to pick the time or day, although we have suggestions for how to work with that for a true tulip aficionado. Crowds should also be a consideration, and it will be more crowded at the height of the season vs early or late. Luckily the park truly is gorgeous any time, and spending a few hours here is a joy!

On my recent visit I went twice, one week apart, late April and early May, to see how much the park changes in a short period of time. The first visit was in the afternoon and it was considerably busier than the second visit at 9a. And both experiences were thoroughly enjoyable!

Please enjoy these pictures that show the stunning flowers, as well as some realistic shots of mowed beds, heavy flowers, and the lovely boxes of greenhouse tulips they place around the park late in the season!

We wrapped up our week with visits to Rotterdam and Amsterdam. From these ports, excursions are offered to the iconic windmills of Kinderdijk, to Keukenhof Gardens, the Waterland region, and city tours of Amsterdam. Independently, it’s easy to visit Delft and to explore Amsterdam on your own.

This Belgium and The Netherlands itinerary offered a wonderful mix of larger cities, beautiful countryside, and everything in between. What a wonderful way to see this part of the world! If a visit to see the tulips of Holland is on your wishlist, whether by land or water, reach out and let’s get you there!

The Floralia Brussels flower show is held every spring on the grounds of the Castle of Groot-Bijgaarden in Belgium. About an hour from today’s port of Antwerp, we took advantage of the proximity and arranged a private excursion. The grounds is the castle are beautiful and seeing them as this flower expo winds down was a treat!

Others visited Brussels, did a walking tour of Antwerp, and enjoyed the beautiful and unseasonably warm day!

Enjoy these lovely springtime photos!

What a day! Brugge and Ghent did not disappoint.

An early morning arrival in Brugge helped avoid the crowds, and a “retro bike” tour was a fantastic way to see so much of the city in a short time. Covering history and scenery, it was the perfect combination.

An afternoon chocolate tasting tour in Ghent covered more history while also visiting authentic Ghentian chocolate shops. Yum!

Going to sleep tired but grateful for a lovely full day!

“Charming” was the word of the day in Middleburg and Veere! These two boating towns are so incredibly…. charming!

This spot was a perfect port for independent exploration. The ship docked about 5 minutes walk from the center of Middleburg. And with the help of e-bikes (the ship has 4 to loan out, and local rentals are easy to find), we enjoyed the 4.5 mile ride to Veere, some time wandering there, and a scenic ride back along the river. We also had gorgeous weather again, which is a bonus! It was a picture perfect day!

Next up: Belgium!

And we’re off! First 24 hours on the Amadeus Amara completed. This beautiful ship has a contemporary style, and a soothing and peaceful ambiance. Spacious rooms with a good size bathroom and a walk-in closet are a comfortable home for the week!

Arnhem was the first port of the cruise. Travelers enjoyed the WWII history tour, a Dutch Open Air Museum, or the Kruller Miller Museum tour through Amadeus. Others ventured off to explore Arnhem and surrounding towns by foot or bike!

I enjoyed the 2nd largest Van Gogh exhibit in Holland at the Kroller Muller Museum, as well as their interesting sculpture garden. It was a beautiful day to explore art set in nature!

Friday was spent in the wonderful city of Lyon. We opted for an independent visit to the local market, where we were treated to an impromptu tasting by a local vendor, followed by a walk through the Vieux Lyon (Old Town), and up to the beautiful church on the hill for the views. A very enjoyable day!
