Wrapping up a wonderful week on the Celebrity Beyond! Beautiful ship, incredible crew, yummy food, fun entertainment, spa time, three days in port and three days at sea with a mix of relaxing and adventure….It’s going to be hard to get back to real life next week!

On the road, winding down the summer with a week of relaxation, a few Caribbean islands, and some family time!

One of my favorite parts of the Edge Class ships on Celebrity is the Infinite Veranda. This design, vs a traditional balcony, extends the living area of the stateroom and allows you to enjoy the view with the window closed (and a/c running) or open (with fresh air breezing through). It’s the best of both worlds and allows this space to be used regardless of the weather. It’s hot and humid in the Caribbean in late August, so we love this sitting area with the window closed and the a/c running! If I’m answering emails this week, you can bet it’s from this spot. 😊

Travelers from MA, have you heard of Logan Express’ “Straight to the Gate” Remote Terminal in Framingham?

This is a first of its kind remote airport terminal for passengers flying on Jet Blue or Delta. Tickets need to be pre-booked but there is no cost for the service, aside from the standard $9pp bus cost.

I had the opportunity to try it twice this month, once for each airline. There are pros and cons, and it’s a great opportunity for some passengers but not right for all. Here are my thoughts….

Pros:

*Very quiet terminal
*No lines, which is especially nice for those who do not have TSA Pre-Check
*Drop off checked bags right away (and a human being actually tags and takes them!)
*Drive directly on the tarmac next to the planes to be dropped off at the terminal
*Can pre-book and pay for parking at the remote lot
*Complimentary Keurig in the waiting area

Cons:
*Check in 45 minutes prior to bus time, which makes for a longer total travel time
*Drive time takes longer, as they have to clear two security checkpoints and be escorted into the secure area of the airport
*If you leave your car at the remote terminal, it is the second drop off point on the trip back to Framingham
*The complimentary Keurig coffee is scalding hot! Even doubling up on the cups didn’t solve this. 😊

Overall, this is a very interesting concept and could be great for people who need a little more time or need to minimize walking (elderly, those with special needs, traveling with young children) or if you are taking a trip with several checked bags. The first time I did it, with Delta, I thought it is perfect for those listed! But the second time, with Jet Blue, we had a lengthy walk from the drop off point to gate, which took away some of the benefit of minimizing walking. The access into the terminal was also easier with Delta vs Jet Blue. They do ask when booking if anyone requires wheelchair assistance.

My conclusion is that I won’t use it when traveling alone, especially with only a carry on. When traveling with family members who need a little more time/support, we will decide on a case by case basis if the longer process is worthwhile.

If you are not sure if it’s a good fit, try it once! It is a cool experience to drive into the secure “back entrance” of Logan!

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles! Oh, and motorcoaches, boats, school buses... Alaska can be explored using all modes of transportation, and how you see it depends on the experience you want!

For those with a bit more time and a desire to see the interior, there are so many options! Many cruise lines offer "cruisetours," where you can add a land vacation onto the cruise. Transportation is by motorcoach or the famous glass-domed trains.

For the more adventurous or those who prefer to be on their own schedule, we design an itinerary that includes a car rental, private driver, or train travel. We can include many destinations in Alaska that aren't always available on the cruisetours.

For those following the long-proposed EU Electronic Visa (ETIAS) requirement, it was recently announced that it is delayed again until at least 2027.

It was originally due to go into effect in 2022, and has been delayed every year since. Keep an eye on the official site for details and updates, or if you have your Europe vacation booked with us, we will let you know when applications open and it is truly, officially, going into effect!

Cruising the Alaska coast between Seattle or Vancouver and the ports of Whittier or Seward is the best way to see this part of Alaska. And there are so many choices!

Do you see yourself wrapped up in a blanket on deck watching the scenery go by? Facebook tells me it's World Chocolate Day... what is your favorite destination for chocolate that you've visited?

We've enjoyed chocolate from France, San Francisco, and Ghent in the last few months. Chocolate tasting is a great activity in a place well known for it, and bringing home chocolate as a gift is always appreciated (or is that just my family??)!!

Nature and wildlife is what draws many people to Alaska. The season typically runs from May to September, and within that time there are periods where you're likely to see more baby animals, more bears, more whales, the best fishing, or the salmon run.

Often vacations are planned around other schedules or commitments, but if you are flexible with your dates and have a particular wildlife experience in mind, let us know and we'll work to set you up for prime viewing. Of course, nature is finicky and nothing is guaranteed, but with views as far as the eye can see, there is plenty to enjoy even if the bear or the eagle eludes us!
