Then came August 1969.

Manson’s followers murdered actress Sharon Tate and four others, followed the next night by the murders of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca.

Weeks later, ranch hand Donald “Shorty” Shea was murdered by Family members. His remains weren’t discovered until 1977.

What happens next for Patricia Krenwinkel?

For the third time, the former Manson follower has been granted parole after nearly 57 years behind bars. But she is not free yet.

The 78-year-old’s October 6, 2026, parole decision must undergo a review of up to 120 days. If it clears that process, California Governor Gavin Newsom will have another 30 days to decide whether to let the decision stand or reverse it.

Newsom overturned her previous two parole grants, in 2022 and 2025, arguing that concerns about her insight into the murders and potential risk to public safety outweighed her rehabilitation.

If he reverses this decision again, Krenwinkel would be scheduled for another parole hearing within 18 months.

Bonny Lee Bakley had a complicated history long before her murder.

She used multiple aliases, had a history of financial schemes and reportedly pursued relationships with wealthy and famous men.

In 2001, she married actor Robert Blake.

That same year, after dinner at Vitello’s in Studio City, Bakley was shot twice while sitting in Blake’s car parked nearby.

She died the following day.

Blake was charged with her murder but acquitted in 2005. A civil jury later found him liable for her death.

No one has ever been criminally convicted of killing Bonny Lee Bakley.
