The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum has begun collaborating with the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), Florida Humanities Council, Florida State University, and the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida to bring a special traveling exhibit to the Sunshine State. “Americans,” part of the Smithsonian’s Museums on Main Street program, will visit five Florida institutions from 2026 through mid 2027.
Curator Tara Backhouse shares that the exhibit “confronts the widely held notion that Indigenous people have disappeared from the Americas by showing that they remain ever present in the broader American cultural landscape.” The exhibition aims to challenge and dismantle pervasive stereotypes about Indigenous peoples in history and everyday discourse.
