Today is the first day of sea turtle nesting season in Florida, the time when female sea turtles make their way to shore to lay their eggs in nests on beaches. Hatchlings should start emerging from new nests in May. This photo by renowned Keys veterinarian Douglas Mader shows a rare hawksbill turtle nestling making its way to the ocean at the end of nesting season last fall.
