🌞❤️🌕

No more darkness in Fairbanks until at least July 29!! We are south of the Arctic circle by 140 air miles, so the sun does set, but this time of the year it never gets more than 6 degrees below the horizon. On May 17th we entered endless daylight, or at least close too it during our so called "night". Civil twilight is now as dark as we get for the next 70 days or so.

It is light enough at night this time of year that back in college a bunch of my friends and I all decided to go canoeing. Most of us worked and a couple did not get off till after 9 pm. But no problem, we picked them up after work, drove out to the Chatanika, by Olnes pond to drop a couple vehicles off and then drove out to the Chatanika river somewhere past the Chatanika lodge off the Steese highway and put in. It was about midnight when we started canoeing. We canoed for several hours then pulled up on a sandbar to rest for an hour or so, several of us took naps, then got back on the river and canoed to the trucks arriving around 6 am. Loaded up, went back to town and back to work. It never got so dark that you could not read a book, the continuous sunrise/sunset was incredible and it was so quiet that time of night.
