J Bear Tours J Bear Tours specializes in tours to Lake Clark and Katmai National Parks. We offer different amounts of time on the ground with the bears.

Guests can expect a 30-75 minute flight, walking among the brown bears, and then a scenic flight back home.

To answer the age old question: does a bear p**p in the woods? There is one place in Lake Clark National Park where the bears exhibit a peculiar behavior of backing up to a cliff and relieving themselves over the edge, where the tide of the ocean will flush away their s**t. It is amazing how intelligent these bears are. The debate now is if they are aiming for tourists or just trying to keep the bed from smelling. What do you think?

This mom left her two babies on the shore and used her lightening fast speed and agility to catch a salmon, that provides so many calories for her and her two spring cubs.

These spring cubs from last season would frequently come over close to us while their mom, “Bearniece”, would dig for clams. It was special and an honor to know that they felt so comfortable that they could sleep by us in the tidal flats of Lake Clark National Park.

Just a little bear cub and his stick. This brown bear spring cub out on the cutest show. Their playful demeanor and energy were the cutest.

One day this last week we were about to give up hope on seeing a salmon caught as the bears were sleepy in the hot sun, we took an unexpected turn into the woods to see this mom of two spring cubs slaying the huge silver salmon.

This little cub sure loves their momma. This went on for several minutes. It was the most adorable display of love and affection that I have seen between mom and offspring.

We witnessed a harrowing scene as a very small, young mom had to make a quick decision between eating a fish she had just caught and defending her last cub from a male that was twice her size. We watched him steal several fish from other bears after they had done all the work of catching them. She ran from him at first to be able to get some needed calories from her catch, but you can see he makes a b-line for the cub and she drops the fish to cut him off just in time.

Fish on. After a few weeks of moody weather and heartbreaking cancellations, the sun came out and the fish are in. It is good to see this mom of triplet spring cubs getting the calories they have been waiting for all summer.

We sat down on the beach and remained still as to not disturb this mom and her triplet spring cubs. Watch as they curiously approach our group.
