This little cub sure loves their momma. This went on for several minutes. It was the most adorable display of love and affection that I have seen between mom and offspring.

We witnessed a harrowing scene as a very small, young mom had to make a quick decision between eating a fish she had just caught and defending her last cub from a male that was twice her size. We watched him steal several fish from other bears after they had done all the work of catching them. She ran from him at first to be able to get some needed calories from her catch, but you can see he makes a b-line for the cub and she drops the fish to cut him off just in time.

Fish on. After a few weeks of moody weather and heartbreaking cancellations, the sun came out and the fish are in. It is good to see this mom of triplet spring cubs getting the calories they have been waiting for all summer.

We sat down on the beach and remained still as to not disturb this mom and her triplet spring cubs. Watch as they curiously approach our group.

Waving at the birds or getting a backscratch?

Sound up to listen to the vocals of Ursula’s cubs. These triplet spring cubs fought over a fish head and scraps of one of the few salmon she has been able to catch this summer. The bears, scenic views and backdrops in Lake Clark create a masterpiece that I could enjoy all day.

Yesterday we witnessed a wild, but sad scene of two moms of triplet cubs getting into a brutal fight. The reddish brown bear on the right’s cubs were fighting over a clam and she ran to break them up and Ursula, another mom of 3 came, charging from 60 yards away.

“Ursula” had enough of her spring cub whining. These kung fu fighting triplets (from a previous post) followed mom over to where we started viewing them from over 50 yards away. They approached us which made for a pretty amazing experience.

These 3 spring cubs more recently came out of the den and are therefore more curious and nervous about humans.
