On this day of remembrance, as we honor the thousands of innocent lives lost and the brave men and women who put the needs of others before their own 25 years ago on September 11, let us not forget the unity that can exist in this country.
Let us spread Love, Grace, and Kindness to all. May God’s light shine upon this amazing and diverse country. Together, we can do anything.
As the years went by and I continued teaching about 9/11 to my fifth graders, it eventually became a history lesson about an event they had no memory of because of their age. Yet the stories of how this nation came together—how people lifted one another up, helped strangers, and put differences aside—always mesmerized my students.
One of my hopes and dreams is that those students, and students in the future, will experience that same sense of patriotism and unity—not because of an evil act we are forced to respond to, but because we finally come to our senses and realize that everyone deserves Love, Grace, and Kindness.
Not just on one day of remembrance, but every day we wake up and have the blessing of seeing the sun rise again.
