ds. It is so important to me that you have the best experience possible. Many people ask, "SO WHY USE A TRAVEL AGENT"? First and foremost, we save them time, sometimes money and many times get them extra amenities. We can arrange things that you may not very easily be able to because we have a network of contacts around the world. If you have a group it is especially beneficial to use a travel agent, because we can negotiate with different suppliers on the clients behalf to get special rates and/or amenities that individuals cannot get. We have approx. 1000 agents, in our company, so as a company we book a lot of travel. The suppliers are therefore much more willing to give us discounts and special deals for our clients, more than an individual who may book once or twice a year. I am able to hold space to give you time to think about the offer. I can also make arrangements for things that would be very difficult for an individual to do. Maybe a visit to a famous museum after hours for just your group, a cooking lesson and dinner with a local family in their home in the country you are visiting, back stage passes at a Broadway show, etc. Payment terms can be much more flexible through a travel agent (make payments, lower deposit etc.). We only book with reputable, financially sound suppliers which is not always the case when booking based on a pretty website, Trip Advisor or even a friend's referral. Also there are several suppliers who only work through travel agents. Another big reason is that if something happens during the trip, you have someone to contact who will work very hard to help you resolve the issue. If you like doing the research yourself use a travel agent as a partner, most of us do not charge you any extra for our service! You are actually paying for this service anyway when you use the online sites, but just not getting the service! Expedia and other travel sites make a commission just like travel agents do, but try to call Expedia if there is a problem. I give all of my clients my phone numbers and e-mail address, so do many of my colleagues. Keep in mind that there is a lot more to a trip than getting the lowest price. We look for value, not jusr price! For instance, I may quote a client a long weekend trip to Mexico at $1500, and client may find what she thinks is the same trip for $1250, BUT with my trip the air is direct, and gets you down to Mexico by 12:00, while the other trip leaves JFK later, has a long lay-over in Miami, and you get to Mexico at 8:00 pm. In addition to that, very cheap vacation packages often gets the least desirable rooms so the room may be located next to the dumpster and the cheap package does not include the transfer to the resort. So, now you're stuck trying to negotiate a taxi. The package the client found was cheaper, but it didn’t it offer the best value for the client! I even offer a MY TRIPS account for my clients to use.
