I ka ‘Ōlelo no ke ola,
I ka ‘Ōlelo no ka make.

In the word there is life,
In the word there is death.

This ‘Ōlelo no’eau speaks to me on different levels.
1) It confirms the power of the words we speak and their ability to heal, build, and give life when pono...as well as the opposite effect of words that hurt, harm, and destroy spoken in hewa.
2) It affirms the duality of language that exists like all forces around us. We communicate with words that possess the light & darkness, the yin and the yang, the inhale and the exhale...
3) Language has life, language grows, our words literally create our understanding and our purpose to live. ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i was banned and suppressed in my grandfather’s school days. Today, the language grows, thrives, and is harvested in our mouths and ears and nourishes our souls...
E ola mau i ka ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i!
