The U.S. Travel Association — a national, nonprofit organization that represents and advocates for all components of the travel industry — unveiled new industrywide guidelines to help travel-related businesses of all types reopen despite threats from the novel coronavirus that causes the disease COVID-19. Among them,
1. Use personal protective equipment (PPE), such as face masks and gloves.
2. Install physical barriers, like transparent screens, to provide separation between customers and employees.
3. Encourage physical distancing via signage, discourage gatherings and congregating in crowded areas, and reconfigure public spaces and/or limit the number of employees and customers in various areas

I'm so happy to have found waiola shave ice open today just for 5 hours, with Jerry doing all the work himself. In this crazy world of covid-19, my favorite shave ice is a little bit of normalcy that I'm embracing muy fuerte.

History, told honestly, matters. Even in tourism.
I believe it is very important that Hawaii’s truthful history be a part of every meaningful discussion about our island home, whether the discussion is with visitors or local folks. For visitors, the learning of our truthful history informs everything about their Hawaii visit - it has historically not been a part of “packaged” Hawaii tourism as we know it. Most people, including 90% of the hundreds of visitors I have met in my lifetime, know little-to-nothing of Hawaii’s history.
For more than 25 years, I have been personally involved with Native Hawaiian history and educational outreach in Hawaii and California, beginning in 1993 as a community educator with Hui Na‘auao, a groundbreaking community education project where life-changing lessons shared by Dr. Kekuni Blaisdell, Mililani Trask, Ku Kahakalau, Ph.D., and others were catalysts for my life thereafter.

Great day!
Had a half day tour with Roland on Oahu. We opted to do Pearl harbour and dole pineapple plantation. The best thing about the tour was Roland though, a charming and chatty guy, he gave us history and information about everything in the car ride. He took us to a fish market and Nicos for awesome seafood and to the best shave ice shop on Oahu which were great! We then went to punch bowl cemetery and to diamond head look out. We felt like the trip was “real” unlike a lot of other commercialised tours and Roland tailored everything to us which made for a special day! We loved it and would award it 6 stars if we could! I loved the chat regarding politics and history and That it wasn’t sugar coated for the American market but honest, respectful and given ina balanced manner.
