"What a great experience, and a serendipitous encounter! We had not planned and excursion in our visit to Hoonah until we met John and Marilyn at lunch - they had a cancellation that day and we were able to join them. Drove the old logging roads around Hoonah while they shared stories and history/culture - all while keeping a lookout for elusive bears. John & Marilyn are true locals, not the seasonal guides, so they have a rich & deep knowledge of the island and everything in it. About halfway in, sure enough, we had the encounter we were hoping for - a big big big bear strolling along the road, munching on the plant life! What a cool tour!!"
