Our Member Spotlight this week is on FOLAR (Friends of the Lower Appomattox River). With the Leadership of their Board and their Executive Director, Wendy Austin, they have been accomplishing great things around our region.
Just under a year ago, they moved into the Appomattox River Center, their beautiful facility at 235 N Market St. in Petersburg. With their new building, FOLAR has the ability to host more hands-on workshops and events.
With Spring in the air, FOLAR members have been busy! Last weekend they hosted their most well-attended 5K yet at Appomattox River Regional Park. They had almost 200 participants walk or run the beautiful riverside trail. Earlier in March, they kicked off their events with volunteers cleaning trash around the park. They even made sure that the dock was ready and in good condition to welcome kayakers.

Meredith Dean, owner of Waves Sandwich Company in downtown Hopewell, was honored by Delegate Carrie Conyer with a General Assembly Resolution today.
Women's History Month is an especially appropriate time to honor Meredith who is leading the way in bringing excellent culinary establishments to the Hopewell area. If you haven't visited Waves Sandwich Company, you should make it a priority.

You just never know who might stop by the visitor center. The Fedynsky family from Ukraine, came in and serenaded us. They are on their way to Philadelphia to perform together as a family.
