“Although our city’s history goes back hundreds of years to the time when Indigenous people gathered around the thermal springs in The Valley of the Vapors, the town of Hot Springs was formally incorporated with a formal government, a mayor, aldermen, city ordinances and police and fire departments on August 11, 1876,” Mayor Pat McCabe said in announcing plans for the birthday gala.
"The Garland County Historical Society is very grateful to be the beneficiary of this fundraiser,” Liz Robbins, executive director of the Historical Society, said. “The funds raised will help us preserve Hot Springs history and make its pictures and stories easily accessible to people now and in the future. This is a great way to celebrate our history, especially as we commemorate our city’s 150th birthday."
