Fishing Conditions & Updates for Maine, New Hampshire & Massachusetts for the week of May 27, 2025! 🎣

Flounder, stripers, salmon, lake trout, and rainbow trout were the lead story this week. We are hearing from most anglers and shops that the bass fishing isn’t what most would expect in late May, due to cooler than normal weather. Salmon and trout fishing, on the other hand, have been on fire. Ocean temps are warming, pushing a good flounder bite, especially around Boston Harbor, and striped bass continue to work their way up the coast in numbers. This boost of warm weather should help a lot.

Our last stop on our Familiarization Tour was at Wilderness Pines Campground & Outfitters in Monticello! Their lodge and covered venue are a beautiful spot for events. You can even get married in their “cathedral in the pines”!
We toured the property and one of their cozy rental cabins. Take a stroll down to the lake to take in the view or go for a paddle. Their newest offering is ATV rentals!

Our next stop on the Familiarization Tour was the Houlton / Canadian Border KOA Journey! This beautiful and peaceful campground is conveniently located on Route 1 but tucked away in the trees. They offer RV sites, glamping tents and tent sites. There are activities for everyone including a rec room with games, an outdoor pool, a playground and a doggie play area. They even stock their pond for fishing!

Continuing on our Familiarization Tour, we stopped at Shin Pond Village in Mt. Chase for a delicious lunch! On their expansive grounds they have a spectacular view and lots of lodging options including lakeside rentals, cabins, RV sites and camp sites. They are gearing up for ATV rental season but you can also rent canoes, kayaks and stand up paddle boards to take out on the pond! After you get out in nature, fuel up on delicious burgers, sandwiches, pizza and more at their restaurant and bar!

The next stop on our Familiarization Tour was at the Patten Lumbermen's Museum! We watched a video made in 1930 about the "River Drivers" in Maine moving logs down the Machias River. There are indoor exhibits including taxidermy, period clothing and an information booth for Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. You could spend hours looking through all of the exhibits in their out buildings including replicas of logging camps, a blacksmith shop, a saw mill display and so much more. Don't forget, they are hosting their annual Fiddlers and Fiddlehead Festival this Saturday 5/24!

Today our staff went on a Familiarization Tour and started our morning at Spring Break Maple & Honey In Smyrna! We got a tour of the maple syrup production facility and got a lesson on how it’s made. Maple syrup boiling season may be short but Spring Break is making maple candy all year long! 🍁 Not only did we get to watch them making and packaging candy, we got to sample it too! Check out their gift shop for more maple treats and Maine made gifts.
