In episode 7: Band of Brothers,Major Winters puts Lt.Speirs in charge of Easy Company during a battle in Noville. In the series it’s depicted as he runs across a field to relieve Lt.Dike but in actuality he goes across the street and back. This is where it actually happened! La Promenade Travel

During the Battle of the Bulge (winter 1944–1945), it sat right within the heavily contested, American-defended perimeter. The town acted as a crucial crossroad that was encircled by the German army. Its Relationship to the Battle of the Bulge:The Siege: The grotto and nearby chapel remained inside the defensive lines held by the 101st Airborne Division and attached armored units.Destruction and Faith: Like many religious and civilian structures in Bastogne, the site was caught in the crossfire as Allied troops defended the town against the last major German offensive.Civilian Refuge: Locals frequently sought shelter and prayed for deliverance in religious sanctuaries like this one during the harrowing artillery bombardments and freezing conditions of the siege.Today, it stands as a quiet site of remembrance, integrated with the Bastogne Tourism historical trails. We made it to Bastogne!

Pictures below⬇️
For a long time, this Sherman tank was seen as one of the vehicles Patton used to liberate the city on December 26th 1944, i.e. belonging to the 4th Division. Actually it belonged to the 11th Division and was immortalized in a muddy field in Renuamont (near by Tillet) La Promenade Travel

What’s the biggest packing mistake people make for an Alaska cruise?

Packing for “cold” instead of packing for Alaska. ❄️

Summer in Alaska is unpredictable in the best possible way. You might wake up to chilly rain, enjoy sunshine by lunch, and end the evening watching glaciers in a light jacket under the midnight sun.

That’s why layers are everything.

✔️ Waterproof jacket
✔️ Fleece or lightweight down layer
✔️ Moisture-wicking tops
✔️ Comfortable pants that dry quickly
✔️ Shoes or boots with good grip for wet docks and ship decks

If you’re doing a cruisetour, smart packing matters even more since you’ll be moving between the ship, trains, lodges, and sightseeing adventures.

The key isn’t packing heavy it’s packing versatile.

And trust me… the guests who enjoy Alaska the most are the ones who are comfortable exploring in any weather. Because when you’re sailing through the Inside Passage or spotting wildlife on deck, you won’t want weather slowing you down.

Alaska rewards travelers who come prepared.

So tell me what’s the ONE thing you never leave out of your suitcase for Alaska? 👇

I wanted to share an update regarding Dawson City.

Recently, the historic Westminster Hotel and Tavern one of Dawson City’s well-known Gold Rush-era landmarks was heavily damaged in a fire. The Westminster was a longtime local gathering place and held significant historical importance within the community.

While this is certainly a loss for Dawson City, the town itself remains open and welcoming visitors. Hotels, restaurants, tours, river operations, and most visitor experiences continue to operate.

One thing many people don’t realize about Alaska cruises is that the sailing season may begin in April, but Alaska itself is still coming out of winter well into May.

Those early sailings can offer lower pricing, but it’s important to understand what that can mean for the overall experience.

During April and early to mid-May:
❄️ Weather is often colder, rainy, foggy, and unpredictable
🛍️ Some port shops and restaurants may not yet be fully operational
🚌 Not all excursions are running consistently yet
🌲 National park areas can still have limited access due to snow

For example, Mendenhall Glacier may be open for hiking, but snow removal on many trails and viewing areas including access to the falls and several scenic paths often has not been completed yet.

By late May, June, July, and even into early September, Alaska becomes much more accessible and active:
âś… Longer daylight hours
âś… More excursion availability
âś… Better trail access
âś… More wildlife activity
âś… Fully open ports, restaurants, and local businesses

Alaska is one destination where timing truly matters. The scenery is incredible all season long, but choosing the right sailing window can make a significant difference in what you’re able to see and experience La Promenade Travel
