NPCA is steadfast in our belief that national parks should be closed during a government shutdown. With the long weekend coming up, many folks have park trips planned, but here’s the truth:

It's a muddled picture across the park system. Some parks are open, some are closed, and NONE have enough staff to protect park resources.

⚠️ In some places, natural hazards or weather events or even conditions like the start of hunting season are making conditions especially risky. With minimal communication from the current administration out to the public, being prepared for closures and emergency situations is imperative.

🌲 Even if parks are open, the experience won’t be what you expect. Programming has been canceled, park websites are not being updated, 2/3 of Park Staff are furloughed, visitor centers and restrooms may be closed.

Our national parks are in the forever business, and they’re especially vulnerable right now.

We are not surprised, we knew this was coming, right?

Due to the government shutdown, we are temporarily closed beginning on Sunday, Oct. 12. We will update our operating status as soon as the situation is resolved. We do not plan to update social media other than to inform you of changes to our operating status.
