Carnival Cruise Line is making one of the biggest loyalty program changes in its history... and longtime cruisers are still trying to fully understand how everything will work.
๐ Starting September 1, 2026, Carnivalโs longtime VIFP loyalty program will officially disappear and be replaced by the brand-new Carnival Rewards system.
The biggest difference?
The new program shifts much more heavily toward spending and total cruise days rather than simply counting how many cruises passengers take.
๐ MILESTONE REWARDS ARE CHANGING COMPLETELY
Under the old VIFP system, guests were rewarded based on the number of cruises completed.
Now, Carnival says milestone recognition will instead focus on total days sailed.
๐ Carnival President Christine Duffy explained that this could actually help some guests reach milestones faster, especially cruisers who take longer voyages instead of short weekend trips.
For example:
๐ธ Guests will receive milestone rewards starting at 50 cruise days
๐ธ Additional rewards continue every 100 days sailed
๐ธ Rewards will now include Carnival Rewards points instead of automatic onboard credit
โ ๏ธ AND THE SAIL & SIGN CARDS ARE CHANGING TOO
Carnival also revealed redesigned Sail & Sign cards that now display each guestโs total โdays sailedโ directly on the card itself.
The cards will move to a vertical design while still keeping the familiar loyalty colors like red, gold, platinum, and diamond.
๐ Carnival says many loyal guests love showing off how many days theyโve sailed, which became a major focus of the redesign.
๐ณ THERE'S ALSO A NEW POINTS SYSTEM
The new program introduces separate systems for:
๐ธ โStarsโ โ loyalty status progression
๐ธ โPointsโ โ spending rewards and redemptions
Guests can earn points through cruise spending, onboard purchases, and even everyday purchases using the Carnival Mastercard.
The points can later be used for things like:
๐ธ Specialty dining
๐ธ Spa treatments
๐ธ Drinks and onboard purchases
๐ธ Future cruises
โ ๏ธ ONE DETAIL IS CAUSING CONFUSION
Unlike previous loyalty updates, guests are NOT automatically enrolled into Carnival Rewards.
Passengers must manually opt into the new program and accept the updated terms and conditions before benefits begin accumulating.
๐ The entire change has sparked huge debate among Carnival cruisers online.
Some passengers like the idea of longer cruises earning faster recognition.
Others are disappointed that milestone onboard credits are disappearing under the new system.
