Destination Hudson

Destination Hudson Destination Hudson is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Destination Hudson is working to keep main street flourishing and make Hudson a top-of-mind destination.

The Mission of Destination Hudson is to promote, create and coordinate community events that highlight Hudson’s history, cultural arts and civic organizations. Hudson Ohio is one of the few remaining real communities in the country with the combination of charm, history, activities, and unique shopping and dining opportunities that can attract individuals and families for an enjoyable and memorabl

e day or weekend. There is so much talk about “Main Street” in today’s press but most Main Streets in the country have been pushed aside by the malls and big box centers.

In celebration of Western Reserve Academy’s 200th anniversary, Destination Hudson, in partnership with First & Main, invited Hudson businesses to contribute coupons, flyers, and promotional materials for a special welcome bag being distributed during WRA’s Bicentennial Weekend, June 4- June 6.

Hudson is proud to welcome WRA past, present, and future students. The Academy is an institution that has long been an important part of what makes our community so unique and charming.

A heartfelt thank you to our Hudson businesses that participated, and to our Destination Hudson board members for their help stuffing 600 welcome bags to greet alumni as they return to campus to celebrate this milestone weekend.

In the April issue of the Celebrate Hudson! newsletter, we asked readers to answer Hudson Trivia Question #3:

Where was the local football field where Pro Football Hall of Famer Dante Lavelli played home games as a star running back for Hudson High School in the 1930s?

The answer: the site we now know as First & Main!

Before becoming a shopping destination — and before the Morse Controls manufacturing facility — the site served as Hudson’s football field and even hosted a circus during the summers. Built in the 1930s by The American Legion Lee-Bishop Post 464, it was among the first lighted football fields in Summit County.

Lavelli, nicknamed “Ol’ Gluefingers” for his incredible catching ability, helped lead Hudson High School to three undefeated seasons before going on to a legendary career with the and eventual induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Congratulations to our trivia winner, Mary Sogan! 🎉

Mary received:
🏈 An official Hudson Explorers drawstring bag, t-shirt, and hat from the “Support Your School” section of Discount Drug Mart

🧴 A $50 gift card from Hudson Ace Hardware — a fitting prize inspired by Lavelli’s famous “Ol’ Gluefingers” nickname. (Though we do not recommend putting glue on your fingers!)

🐾 Did you know? Dog-friendly businesses can help create more vibrant, connected downtowns by encouraging people to stay longer, walk more, and explore local shops and restaurants.

As patio season arrives, it’s a great time to support the Hudson businesses that welcome both you and your four-legged friends! 🐶☀️

Whether you’re grabbing coffee, shopping, or enjoying dinner downtown, bringing your pup along makes the experience even better.
