GET YOUR VIKING BLING ON!

Homecoming is coming, Huntington County, and there’s a new place to find your Viking spirit and MORE!

Stop by Bend the Trend on Jefferson Street in Huntington and check out the new Viking Boutique, featuring apparel and creations made by Signs, Etc. and Mandy Snowden.

But there’s a great local story behind all that sparkle.

Mandy was born and raised in Huntington and has been creating through Signs, Etc. for 22 years. While apparel has always been part of the business, this year she decided it was time to grow that side of what she does.

And there was one thing she knew it needed…

SPARKLE!

“I love how sparkle makes people light up and makes people happy and giddy. It doesn’t matter your age. If you’re a sparkle person, you’re my people!”

For Mandy, though, it’s about more than creating something cute to wear. She loves helping people bring an idea to life and creating something unique for them.

It’s also about local businesses supporting local businesses.

Signs, Etc. is collaborating with Bend the Trend to bring the Viking Boutique to shoppers and also works with other Huntington businesses, including Coffee Bean Counter, which serves as a pickup location for completed apparel orders.

Mandy says that spirit of collaboration is something she wants to see continue throughout Huntington County.

“Even if we do the same thing, being able to take what they do well and either promote that or work together helps make each other stronger.”

And when we asked Mandy what makes Huntington special, her answer was simple: the people.

She loves our downtown, our locally owned shops and coffee spots, and especially the way this community supports one another.

That’s exactly why we say…

Today we’re excited to feature our second Huntington County Photography Contest winner — Big Dog Photography!

If something is happening around Huntington County, there’s a good chance you’ll find him nearby with a camera in hand, ready to capture the moment.
From being courtside at a basketball game, waiting for that perfect shot, to capturing the beauty of nature, community events, families, and everyday moments, his enthusiasm for photography shows in everything he does.

What we especially love is how often he shares Huntington County through his lens. The excitement of a game. The energy of an event. A beautiful scene you might otherwise pass by. Those photographs help tell the story of our county and the people who make it special.

He’s always moving, always looking, and always determined not to miss the shot.

Huntington Chalk Walk

Sometimes the best community traditions begin with someone thinking, “Wouldn’t it be cool if…?”

For Pam Burris, that moment happened more than a decade ago during one of Huntington’s first Music in the City events.

Pam has always loved art and music, and she remembers bringing chalk for kids to draw in the street. As she watched them create, she thought, Wouldn’t it be cool to do this on the sidewalks and have people come see it? A chalk art show!

Pam laughs because she thought she had come up with something completely new, only to later discover other communities were already doing chalk walks.

“I do pride myself in thinking that if no one else had been doing it, I would’ve created this new thing because I had no clue it was a thing!”

What Pam did create was something special for Huntington.

The Huntington Chalk Walk.

For Pam, the event is about showcasing local talent and bringing people together. She loves watching the sidewalks transform, but just as much, she loves seeing artists meet, talk, laugh and encourage one another.

“It’s all positive.”

This year will include a special category honoring Bob Burnsworth, who was a huge supporter of the Chalk Walk from the very beginning.

There’s also something new for the youngest visitors! Children ages 5 and under can participate in tricycle races beginning at 1 p.m., with the winner taking home a brand new Radio Flyer tricycle. There will also be face painting and plenty of opportunities to watch artists create live.

Artists can register beginning at 8 a.m. and have until 3 p.m. to complete their artwork.

Pam hopes families come downtown, put the phones away for a while, enjoy the fresh air and experience something together.

“If you love art and you would like to see people doing art live, this is where you want to be.”

People like Pam are why we say People Make the Place.

What started with a box of chalk and a simple idea has grown into a Huntington tradition that brings art, families and community together.

🎶 TONIGHT IN DOWNTOWN WARREN!

Looking for something to do this Friday night? Head to Warren for an evening of live music, local history, and a little exploring along the way!

Whoa, Man takes the stage at Riverside Park from 6:30–9:30 PM for a FREE three-hour concert presented by the Warren Area Chamber of Commerce. Bring your lawn chair, bring your dancing shoes, and settle in for a beautiful August evening!

But don’t just come for the music—take some time to explore downtown Warren while you’re there!

Stroll through Warren Veterans Park, discover the four downtown murals, check out the newly installed Storytelling Photo Boards by Historic Warren Main Street, and be sure to find the Citizens Telephone Corp. phone booth for a fun photo op!

Live music. Small-town charm. Local history. And plenty of places to snap a great picture.

Make a night of it and experience a little more of Huntington County. ❤️

Welcome Bell & Mae Boutique to Roanoke!
There’s a new place to shop in Huntington County, and this one comes with a pretty special story.

Bell & Mae Boutique offers a fun selection of affordable, unique finds, giving shoppers another reason to spend a little extra time exploring Roanoke’s charming downtown.

But the story behind the boutique might be our favorite part.
Years ago, when the owner, Norah was looking for a part-time job, it was her grandmother who encouraged her to apply at the very store she now owns. Fast-forward to today, and that little piece of advice has come full circle.

When the opportunity came to open a shop of her own, she knew exactly where she wanted to be. She had fallen in love with the downtown area and knew it was where Bell & Mae Boutique belonged.

And even the name has a story. Bell & Mae was inspired by two special parts of her life — her animal and her grandmother — making the boutique personal from the very beginning.

We love seeing new businesses choose Huntington County, especially when they bring new life, new shopping experiences, and their own story to our downtown communities.

Next time you’re in Roanoke, take a stroll downtown, stop into Bell & Mae Boutique, discover something unique, and help us give them a warm Huntington County welcome.

What. A. Day. ❤️

Our Huntington County Trolley Tour is officially in the books, and I don’t think we could have asked for a better group to experience it with!

To everyone who climbed aboard Trolley No. 85 with us — THANK YOU! Thank you for laughing with us, exploring with us, supporting our local businesses and communities, and simply being willing to come along for the ride. You truly made the day so much fun.

We also couldn’t have made this experience happen without the businesses and organizations that supported our tour

Your support helped us add a little extra fun to the adventure while encouraging our guests to discover even more of Huntington County.

Judging by the laughs, conversations, pictures, and memories we brought home with us…I’d say we accomplished that.
