It was amazing teaching my kids how to ski, but teaching my wife was incredibly rewarding. My kids learn a new trick or skill every .02 seconds. It was really cool seeing my wife that I've known for 16 years to start something brand new and absolutely kill it.
We started small.
Day 1: Bunny Slopes. Learning how to stop. Learning how to plow turn. Learn how to get on and off the lift. This is it. Practice a ton.
Day 2: Bunny Slopes: Reviewing stopping and plow turns. Getting comfortable with a bit of speed. Green Run: Going down a full green with plow turns. Back to Bunny Slopes to learn proper turning.
Day 3: Bunny Slopes: Review stopping and plow turns. Get comfortable sending the bunny slopes. Review proper turns. Go back to the greens and run the greens with proper turning. And then run them again.

Last year during spring break we wanted to do Disney with our kids but flights to Orlando were $300+ during spring break, even from surrounding airports. So I looked at Tampa. We flew to Tampa for under $500 for our family of 4 on Breeze. Yes it's a budget airline, but honestly it didn't feel any different. We rented a car (which we may have done anyway) and drove an hour from Tampa to Disney where we had the time of our lives (except the part where my youngest licked poles and ended up sick - if you have small kids, you understand 😂)

HSV - DEN ski on a budget
One of the easiest ways to cut down on flight costs is adjusting what day of the week you fly!
We flew non-stop to Denver around $200/ticket (from Huntsville that's a deal, I know airports with Frontier can get super cheap).
On our long weekend vacation to Colorado flights on Friday - Tuesday were $500/ticket. I was going to miss 2 days of work (Monday was a holiday) so what did I do? I shifted it Saturday - Wednesday and saved $1200 for 4 of us. Still missed only 2 days of work and since we got our flights for so much less we went ahead and spent $200 more on our Airbnb to get within 100 yds of the lifts at keystone. As Michael Scott would say, this was a win-win-win.

Last night we got to attend the HSV -> NYC Times Square party put on by !
They were celebrating flights starting TODAY flying out of Huntsville, AL and landing in New York City on Delta!
This is a huge move for Huntsville as it gains us access to not only non-stops to NYC, but cheap connecting flight options over to Europe. I'm looking forward to finding incredible deals all over including those 1-stop options in NYC!
