This hotel is $70 more per night.

And depending on the trip, I might still recommend it.

Because the price of the room isn’t always the price of the decision.

A hotel that puts you steps from the cafés, restaurants, sights and neighborhoods you actually came to experience can mean fewer taxis, less time in transit and more time enjoying your vacation.

Sometimes the “cheaper” hotel costs you more in ways that never show up in the room rate.

Good travel planning isn’t just about finding the lowest price. It’s about figuring out which option gives you the best overall trip.

You don’t need to upgrade every part of a trip to make it feel special.

Sometimes we’d spend more for the hotel location and keep the train seats standard.

Sometimes we’d choose a great four-star hotel and put the extra money toward a private experience you’ll remember for years.

Sometimes the room upgrade is worth every penny. Sometimes it really isn’t.

Good travel planning isn’t about spending the most. It’s about knowing where spending more will actually change your trip.

That’s one of the things we look at when we help build an itinerary: where to save, where to splurge, and where your budget will have the biggest impact.

Two Greece cruises can both include Santorini and still give you very different days there.

Why?

Because the part most people look at is the itinerary.

The part I’d also look at is what else is happening in port that day.

Santorini currently caps cruise visitors at 8,000 per day, but ship size, arrival timing and excursion strategy can still change the experience significantly.

That’s one of those hidden variables that can turn:
“It stops in Santorini!”
into:
“Is this actually the Santorini experience we want?”

That’s the kind of question we like answering before the trip is booked.

Apparently, a LOT of you have Africa on your bucket list. 🦒🌍

When we introduced Tasha and asked which trip you’d choose — Germany, Portugal or an African safari — 8 of the 15 responses picked safari.

So I started digging a little deeper into what an African safari trip can actually look like.

A friend of mine has traveled through Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Namibia, and hearing about her experiences made me realize how much more there is to a safari than simply climbing into a vehicle and looking for animals.

Imagine…

🦒 Visiting the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi
🐘 Seeing orphaned elephants at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
🦁 Game drives through the Serengeti and Ngorongoro
🥂 Sundowners in the bush
🍽️ Meals surrounded by landscapes you normally only see on TV
🍷 Ending the trip with Cape Town and w**e country in Stellenbosch
🦒 Or sitting down to a meal in Namibia with giraffes nearby

And yes, there are lions, elephants, giraffes, leopards and all of those incredible wildlife moments.

But I think the part that intrigues me most is everything around the safari too.

The lodges. The people. The food. The landscapes. The quiet moments. The stories you would come home telling for years.

So now I’m curious…

For those of you who chose African safari, what is it that makes you want to go most?

The wildlife?
The experience of staying in the bush?
Seeing Africa itself?
Or is it simply one of those trips you’ve always dreamed about?

Planning a vacation shouldn't require 37 open browser tabs.

But somehow it happens.

One resort looks perfect…until you read the reviews.

Another has the beach you want, but not the room setup you need.

Then someone on Facebook recommends somewhere completely different and you're back to square one.

Here's the thing:

You probably don't need more options. You need the right options.

That's one of the biggest things we do at Pack & Play Travel.

We take the giant world of possibilities and narrow it down based on you how you like to travel, what matters to you, what you're willing to spend and what you want this trip to feel like.

Because planning a vacation should make you excited to go.

Not exhausted before you even book it.

What's the most overwhelming part of planning a trip for you?

MEET YOUR JOURNEY HOSTS ✈️

Next up: Tena Ziegler

Behind every Journey Circle adventure is someone who can’t wait to experience it right alongside you.

Meet Tena. 💙

Retired mom, grandma, great-grandma and one of the people working behind the scenes at Pack & Play Travel, Tena didn’t actually step onto an airplane until she was 41 years old.

Her very first flight?

Alaska.

And apparently that was all it took.

She came home hooked on seeing more of this beautiful world and has been making up for lost time ever since.

For Tena, travel isn’t just about checking another destination off the list. It’s about understanding the people, traditions and history that make a place different from anywhere else.

And maybe even more importantly, it’s about the people you meet along the way.

A few things to know before you travel with Tena:

✈️ Aisle seat. A must.

🇮🇹 Favorite destination: Italy. The food, the people, the history, the architecture and those incredible landscapes make it hard to beat. Ireland and Germany are close behind.

🏝️ Favorite place to truly relax: Aruba

🇭🇷 Bucket list: Croatia. She’ll get there someday.

🍫 Carry-on essential: Chocolate. We fully support this travel strategy.

🍝 Favorite travel food: Pasta in Italy, preferably accompanied by plenty of fresh homemade bread.

☕ Coffee order: Usually black coffee, but every once in a while she switches things up with a Scooter’s Blended Mocha and an extra shot.

🌿 When she’s not traveling: You’ll probably find her working in her yard and gardens during the summer, or scrapbooking and reading when winter arrives.

And one of her most unforgettable travel memories?

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland.

We have a feeling there are some stories there. 😂

But the trip that changed the way Tena sees travel was a river cruise along the Danube.

Experiencing Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic and Germany while learning about their history and meeting people who actually call those places home showed her just how much more there is to travel than simply seeing the sights.

That experience also helps explain why she is so excited to host Journey Circle travelers herself.

Tena says:

“I believe the best trips aren’t necessarily about the destination. It’s the people and traditions of that destination, along with the fellow travelers you meet along the way, that make a trip unforgettable.”

And when we asked what she would say to someone thinking about joining her on a Journey Circle adventure?

“Come with me. Let me take care of the details so you can spend your time enjoying the trip, experiencing somewhere new and making friends along the way.”

That sounds pretty perfect to us.

Because Journey Circle isn’t just about having someone organize a trip.

It’s about having someone there who wants you to feel comfortable, included and taken care of, while still giving you the freedom to enjoy the experience your own way.

And for Tena, one of the best parts will be watching a group of travelers arrive not knowing exactly what to expect...

and come home as friends. ❤️

💬 Say hi to Tena below! And tell us: Italy, Ireland, Germany or Croatia...where are you going with her?

And if you’re not already inside The Journey Circle, come join us. It’s where we share upcoming hosted trips, first looks at new Journey ideas, meet our hosts and connect with other travelers who are ready to see more of the world.

You don't have to have your vacation figured out before contacting a travel advisor.

Actually, we'd rather you didn't.

You can come to us with:

“We're thinking Europe.”

“We want somewhere warm.”

“Our anniversary is next year.”

“The kids have never been out of the country.”

“We want to do something really special, but we have no idea what.”

That's enough to start.

We'll ask the questions.

We'll help narrow the possibilities.

We'll talk through what makes sense.

And we'll build from there.

You bring the idea. We'll help you figure out the rest.

Ready to start planning? Send us a message and tell us what you're dreaming about.

OUR FIRST JOURNEY CIRCLE TRIP IS OFFICIALLY OPEN ✈️

That’s exactly why this Journey was created.

Join Tena Ziegler for a hosted Rhine River & Switzerland cruise for solo travelers, October 4–13, 2027.

This is not a singles trip. It’s for anyone who wants the freedom of traveling on their own without feeling like they’re traveling alone.

Every traveler has their own private cabin, while still having a Journey Circle group to explore, dine, laugh and experience Europe with.

You’ll cruise through Germany, France and Switzerland, with stops and experiences including the Rhine Gorge, Strasbourg, the Black Forest, Lucerne and the Swiss Alps.

And now the important part:

$300 holds your spot.
Deposit by September 8, 2026 and save $150.

We have just 6 cabins available, and our reserved cabins are only being held through September 16.

Final payment isn’t due until June 14, 2027.

You don’t always need a list of the “top 10 things to do” in a destination.

Sometimes the best way to experience a city is to slow down and really explore one small piece of it.

A favorite café. A neighborhood restaurant. A beautiful street you might have walked right past. A shop you never would have found from a “must-see” list.

It’s also one of the reasons we care so much about where your hotel is located, not just how pretty the hotel looks online.

The right location can completely change how a trip feels.

There’s a big difference between seeing a hotel online and actually standing there.

Walking the beach.

Seeing how far the rooms really are from the pool.

Knowing what’s outside the resort gates.

Experiencing the neighborhood.

Finding out whether that “easy walk” actually feels easy after dinner.

Our team travels because firsthand experience gives us context that a photo gallery or booking site simply can’t.

So when you see us sharing places we’ve personally visited, there’s usually a reason.

We’re not just collecting vacation photos.

We’re collecting information we can use when it’s time to plan yours.
