🇬🇩 A Little Grenada History & Island Trivia! 🌴

Greetings from Grenada! 🌺 Since I’m exploring this beautiful Caribbean island firsthand, I thought I’d share a little about the history and culture behind the gorgeous views.

🌿 Why is Grenada called the Spice Island?
Grenada is famous for producing spices, especially nutmeg and mace, along with cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and turmeric. You’ll even find a nutmeg pictured on the country’s flag!

🏝️ Grenada is actually a three-island nation.
The country is made up of the main island of Grenada and the smaller islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, along with several tiny islands.

📜 Its history stretches back centuries.
Grenada was originally inhabited by Indigenous peoples before European colonization. The French established control in the 1600s, and the island later came under British rule. Grenada gained its independence from Britain in 1974.

🇬🇩 The island has a fascinating modern history, too.
Political upheaval following a 1979 revolution eventually led to a crisis and the U.S.-led intervention in Grenada in 1983, an event that remains an important chapter in both Grenadian and Caribbean history.

🏛️ Meet the capital: St. George’s.
With its colorful buildings wrapped around a horseshoe-shaped harbor, St. George’s reflects centuries of Caribbean and European history.

🌋 And this tropical paradise has volcanic roots!
Grenada’s volcanic origins helped create its dramatic mountains, fertile soil, waterfalls, rainforest, and incredibly lush landscape.

🍫 Bonus fact: All that fertile soil is also perfect for cacao, which means Grenada has a thriving bean-to-bar chocolate scene. Chocolate AND beaches? That feels slightly unfair to the rest of the world. 😂🍫🌴

Travel is so much more than seeing a beautiful place. It’s learning the stories, history, food, and culture that make that place unique.

I am officially a Grenada Travel Expert🌴 Our first trip to Grenada and we fell in love🥰 This island is the perfect destination for amazing food, wonderful beaches, friendly locals, rich culture, and most of all perfect winds for sailing⛵️ . We are excited to head back in October!

We enjoyed a fantastic winter vacation in Ludlow, Vermont, at Okemo Mt., where we spent a week playing in the snow. Our ski-in/ski-out condo at Winterplace was ideally located near the lift. The hot tub and indoor pool were a wonderful way to unwind after a day on the slopes. Renting skis from the local shop, Totem Pole, was a seamless process. The military discount on the Epic Pass made lift tickets very affordable. It was an excellent trip, and I was able to visit another state.
