National HDT Rally

National HDT Rally The National HDT Rally is a community of Heavy Duty Truck and 5th Wheel enthusiasts who gather once a year to share their knowledge and experience.

Every year the 2nd week in October, the National Heavy Duty Truck (HDT) Rally is held in Hutchinson, KS. Registration information can be found here: nationalhdtrally.org


The Rally is a meeting of owners and people contemplating getting an HDT. There are presentation sessions on subjects of interest to HDT’s and RVer’s in general. Safety is a main concern when using an HDT and several experienced

presenters will share their knowledge. There are also social functions to build relationships with fellow RVer’s. All RVer’s are invited. You do not need to have an HDT. You do not need to be a member of Escapees or any other organization to attend the Rally. At the Rally, you can sit and meet with HDT owners, tour HDT trucks and RV’s, get a sense of sitting in a HDT and maybe drive a HDT. This includes both spouses in most all activities. (Men are not allowed to attend the Rigs Driven By Estrogen (RDBE) Meeting). Depending upon availability, trucks rides and chances to drive a truck will be available.

Re: National HDT Rally
We are now into August as of the 15th The registration fee goes up $10 per Person. "T" shirt Pre orders will also stop. I will have extras available for sale at the Rally but the will be FIRST COME FIRST SERVED. I will also have an assortment of hats available. I had a discussion with the Fair Office. And due to a raise in camping fees I got them to maintain the $22 a night for the Rally but They are raising the pre and post Rally per-night cost to $25. They wanted to go to full price. But I was able to negotiate that down. Seems several people made comments in the office that the rally price was extremely cheap. And one of the directors overheard. Looking forward to seeing everyone hopefully fuel prices come down before then.

Good Morning (well it still is here in the Mountain Time Zone) were getting close to the one month out cutoff for "t" shirts (Aug 15th) sign ups are a little slower this year I believe some of that is the cost of fuel. We aren't way down but down a little I'm starting to pencil in the schedule have had a couple new seminar offers so there will be some new topics. If you're not sure if you've signed up yet. This years Rally will be October 10th to the 17th. Registrations are going well despite fuel prices still being elevated. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

I have started a 2025 National HDT Rally private facebook group that will be available to those that have registered I will keep the the calendar and any updates there along with other pertinent info. Happy Tuesday! Today is the 12th of Aug. While that mean nothing to many it leave 3 days to order T-shirts and save $10 PP on your Rally registration. Registration won't close till mid week the week of the Rally. So if your on the fence yet don't fret you can still come. Still join the festivities. I don't order food till the week before and restock throughout the week. We're at 78 registrations currently, we have room for 200 or more. I'm working on finalizing the Schedule when its complete I'll post it up. On the website and here. Looking forward to seeing old friends, meeting new friends and just having a good time. See you all soon.

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our dear friend and fellow HDT owner, Dave Schonhardt.
Dave passed peacefully this morning at 7:20 a.m. Mountain Time.

He had a deep love for his HDT and treasured the friendships he made within the HDT community. In true Dave fashion, he requested no formal service—choosing instead a burial at sea.

To honor his life and memory, we invite all of his friends to raise a glass in his name. This Monday at 6:00 p.m. Mountain Time, toast Dave with your favorite craft beer—something he loved sampling as he traveled the country.

And for those who attended one of his many RV electrical safety classes—check your wires for wear. 😉 Dave would have appreciated that.
