Here’s a fun fact for your timeline 🐾🦴

FOUR YEARS AGO TODAY. On June 11, 2021, Heritage Village Dog Park officially opened — and it’s been a local favorite ever since.

But here’s something most people don’t know:
That giant bone-shaped stone at the entrance — over 7 feet long and 4,000 pounds — was carved from a piece of the historic Rock Island Swing Bridge, which partially collapsed in 2009.

Thanks to some forward-thinking local leaders, the remaining bridge was preserved as a scenic pier — and parts of it were saved for creative projects like this.

A generous local resident donated funds for the bone sculpture, and the dog park itself was funded by a Dakota County grant using landfill fees designated for community projects.

Today, it’s not just a dog park — it’s a one-of-a-kind blend of history, generosity, and local pride.
