Norway is building Rogfast, planned to become the world’s longest and deepest subsea road tunnel at about 27 km long and up to 392 meters below sea level, linking the E39 route with fewer ferry crossings and faster travel along the west coast. Construction started in 2018, was paused in 2019 due to cost overruns, then restarted with a revised plan and budget around NOK 25 billion, with an opening targeted for 2033. One of the wildest details is the planned underwater roundabout system about 260 meters deep that connects to Kvitsøy island, basically a highway interchange under the ocean.
