Decided to suck it up and take my first outdoor (cold) shower on my balcony. It wasn’t until after I got used to the cold water that I realized that if I kept turned my the k**b counterclockwise enough the water would actually get scalding hot!!! Huge, huge win!!!

Study abroad was almost unheard of in the early 70s, but from junior high (aka middle school) I knew I’d spend a semester of my junior year in college in Madrid. Though the commute to classes was an hour by public transport (or two hours by foot), I’m a City Boy and elected to live in a pension, half a block from the heart and soul of Madrid, the Puerta del Sol. Most evenings I walked home, basking in the beat of the City. The Puerta del Sol is the point from which all kilometer markers on Spanish highways fanning out from Madrid in any direction are measured.
