Had a fun couple days with Tyler. The bite was a little tough but he managed to hook up over a dozen reds and a couple trout. Redfish never get old but the way trout feed is super exciting. We watched this shadow circle and figure eight around this mudding redfish, and when the shot lined up, the shadow lunged ahead of the red and inhaled the fly, suddenly becoming a very visible sea trout. Although we had shots at some laid up trout, the other came in similar fashion, materializing out of a group of tailing redfish to take the fly before the reds could get to it. Personally, I’d love to see the trout protected the way the redfish are until their population returns to the environments full carrying capacity but in lieu of this, let’s practice catch and release on the sea trout and help Mosquito Lagoon return to her full potential!
