Yorktown Avenue became an active taxiway this morning!

Early this morning, crews from Fleet Readiness Center Southeast, escorted by base security, carefully towed the Blue Angel F/A-18 Hornet from its longtime spot at the front of NAS Jacksonville through the Yorktown Gate to an FRCSE maintenance hangar, where it will undergo several months of repair and repainting.

This maintenance is part of a broader beautification effort at all NAS Jacksonville. From pressure washing and fence painting to fresh parking lot lines and more, teams across the installation have been hard at work improving the base environment. And this is one project you’ll definitely notice when you come aboard!

An awe-inspiring aerobatic performer whose skill in the sky left crowds breathless and hearts full. More than just a legend in the air show world, he was a friend to anyone that knew him.

Blue Skies, Rob. We will miss you dearly.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I am sharing that Rob Holland lost his life today, 24 April 2025, in an accident at Langley AFB, VA. The cause of the crash is not known at this time, and is under investigation by the FAA, NTSB, and DOD.

Rob was one of the most respected and inspiring aerobatic pilots in aviation history. Even with an absolutely impressive list of accomplishments, both in classical competition aerobatics and within the air show world, Rob was the most humble person with a singular goal to simply be better than he was yesterday.

We would greatly appreciate your respect to the privacy of his family and friends.

And remember…. Never ever give up on your dreams.

Blue skies
