Today is National Wildlife Day, a time to celebrate wildlife and protect the natural habitats they depend on! 🦅🐢🐬

This day is the perfect opportunity to appreciate the incredible wildlife living right here in our own backyard. From the salt marshes of Swansboro to the longleaf pine forests of Holly Ridge, Onslow County is home to a diverse coastal ecosystem:
🐢 Nesting Sea Turtles: Bear Island and North Topsail Beach serve as crucial nesting grounds for loggerhead sea turtles.
🐬 Coastal Marine Life: Bottlenose dolphins, ospreys, egrets, and herons thrive along our estuarine waters and tidal creeks.
🌿 Protected Sanctuaries: Preserves like Hammocks Beach State Park and Stones Creek Game Land safeguard vital habitats for everything from migratory birds to rare plant species.

How You Can Celebrate & Protect Local Wildlife Today:
Practice Leave No Trace: Keep our beaches clean by packing out all trash, fishing line, and plastics.
Respect Nesting Sites: Keep a respectful distance from sea turtle nests and coastal bird enclosures.
Support Local Conservation: Visit our state parks, learn about coastal ecosystems, and share the message of conservation!

Let's do our part to ensure Onslow County's wild spaces stay vibrant for generations to come! 🌾🌊
