The Welcome Center will be open extended hours during Foothills:

Learn more about George Lindsey at the Jasper Welcome Center & Museum in Downtown Jasper.

From Jasper, Alabama, came a man who brought a smile to millions, the beloved actor and comedian George Lindsey. Best remembered as the gentle, grinning gas station fellow on a favorite small-town television show, and later as a longtime star of the country music and comedy stage, he became one of America's most cherished funnymen. But no matter how famous he grew, George Lindsey never forgot where he came from. He remained a proud son of Alabama all his life, returning often to his home state and giving generously to help others, especially children in need. For years he hosted a charity event in Montgomery that raised a great deal of money for a good cause. He had a gift for making folks laugh, but it was his kind heart that people remembered most. His humor was gentle and warm, never mean, the kind that made you feel good all over. That floppy cap and that easy grin became old friends to families who welcomed him into their living rooms week after week. Alabama has given the world many bright stars, and George Lindsey shone with a special down-home glow. He reminded us that you can go far in this world and still stay true to your roots. A good laugh and a good heart are a legacy worth leaving.

Put this one on your Jasper list! 📍❤️

Tucked alongside Town Creek is a piece of Jasper history dating all the way back to 1939. This beautiful WPA-era bridge was built using stone pulled directly from the creek flowing beneath it, and thanks to the generosity of All Sides Pressure Washing, you can now see that original stonework looking better than ever!

They recently cleaned the historic bridge, donating the entire project to the community, and the before-and-after is pretty amazing. 👏

You’ll find it at Town Creek Park, next to Maddox Intermediate School, where you can also enjoy the playground, picnic spots and fitness pocket park.

🎸 24 DAYS TO FOOTHILLS! 🎸

2026 METAL CENTRAL FOOTHILLS FESTIVAL TO BRING TWO DAYS OF FREE LIVE MUSIC TO DOWNTOWN JASPER

JASPER, AL - Collective Soul, Mark Chesnutt, Everclear, Deana Carter, John Waite, and Channing Wilson will bring two nights of free live music to Historic Downtown Jasper during the 2026 Metal Central Foothills Festival, September 11 and 12.

The Foothills Festival draws tens of thousands of people to Jasper each year for a weekend filled with nationally recognized entertainment, local music, food, shopping, and activities throughout the downtown entertainment district. Festival hours are 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday and 10 a.m. to midnight on Saturday.

Admission to the festival and all musical performances is completely FREE.

In addition to two stages of music, festivalgoers can explore more than 100 vendors, enjoy food trucks and downtown restaurants, shop local boutiques, and take part in activities throughout the festival area. The weekend will also include the Foothills 5K and a car show at the Jasper Civic Center.

“The Foothills Festival gives us an opportunity to showcase not only our downtown, but Jasper as a whole,” said Mayor Josh Gates. “The best thing about Jasper has always been its people, and this festival puts that on full display. Thousands of people come together to enjoy great music, support our local businesses, and experience the kind of hospitality that makes Jasper special. We are incredibly grateful to the Jasper Area Entertainment Board, our sponsors and partners, the volunteers, and especially our City employees whose hard work makes this festival possible year after year.”

First held in 1997, the Foothills Festival has become one of Jasper’s signature events. When the Jasper City Council brought the festival back in 2013, it made the pivotal decision to offer it free to the public. That commitment continues through the significant support of the City of Jasper and the generosity of businesses, organizations, and individuals throughout the community, including title sponsor Metal Central, Local Stage sponsor Synovus, and the many other festival partners who recognize the event’s value to Jasper and the surrounding region.

Jasper Area Entertainment and its Board lead the production of the festival, supported by volunteers, sponsors, community partners, and City employees from across numerous departments. Together, they make it possible for Jasper to welcome tens of thousands of residents and visitors for one unforgettable weekend each year.

The Foothills Festival is a rain-or-shine event. Public parking will be available within walking distance of the festival, with designated mobility-accessible parking and viewing areas also available.
