Some great info here!!
Things to know before you head out for the trails this weekend:
🌡️ After another warm weekend, the likelihood of snow or ice is minimal except on some south-facing trails. Muddy areas in lower elevations are drying.
🦟 It's black fly season, so be prepared for that relentless hum. Break out a bug net if you have it, and cover as much skin as possible to avoid bites.
🤳 Ticks and mosquitoes will be happy to see you too, so consider permethrin spray for your clothing, or picaridin, IR3535, or DEET products.
🚶♀️Summit stewards will be on summits this weekend. If you see one, say hello, and let them open your eyes to the hidden wonders of alpine ecosystems.
🐻 If you're planning to spend the night in the Eastern High Peaks, you'll need a bear canister. You can rent one from the High Peaks Information Center (HPIC).
🚌 Shuttle busses are not yet running.
🚗 Parking near all Adirondack trailheads is likely to be very busy on weekends. Go early, and have two backup plans for parking, just in case.
🗺️ Consider downloading the DackMap app from the Apple or Google Play Store. You can see up-to-date parking info, maps, track Adirondack hiking challenge progress, see regulations and emergency info, and more.
Be safe and have fun! 😀
