It's elk hunting season here in New Mexico 🦌🏹 — a good time to look back at the tools ancestral Jemez hunters relied on.
Swipe through: a grooved stone arrow shaft abrader, used to smooth — and by some accounts, straighten — a wooden shaft until it flew true. Alongside it, a full hunting toolkit: bone perforators, bone and antler projectile points, finely worked stone points, and obsidian sourced straight from the Jemez Mountains. And the payoff — a set of elk antlers, a reminder of exactly what these tools were built for.
