This memorial, at McGinley Square, is the second that I’ve found in Jersey City that is dedicated to the USS Maine, which exploded and sank in Havana Harbor, Cuba in 1898. The other is located inside the Jersey City Free Public Library on Jersey Avenue.

A project to restore the historic Jersey City Hall building on Grove Street revealed some rare original tiles dating back to mid-1800 England.

The long-awaited project to connect Central Avenue from Newark Avenue across from the Hudson County Courthouse to Hoboken Avenue a block away is finally showing signs of completion. Central avenue will finally run uninterrupted for miles.

Mayor Fulop announced that the city has been granted the ability to provide people born in Jersey City with a certified copy of their birth certificates directly from the Clerk’s Office.
