This memorial, at McGinley Square, is the second that I’ve found in Jersey City that is dedicated to the USS Maine, which exploded and sank in Havana Harbor, Cuba in 1898. The other is located inside the Jersey City Free Public Library on Jersey Avenue.

The long-awaited project to connect Central Avenue from Newark Avenue across from the Hudson County Courthouse to Hoboken Avenue a block away is finally showing signs of completion. Central avenue will finally run uninterrupted for miles.
