Residents and nonresidents may fish from Friday, June 12 at noon until midnight Sunday, June 14, 2026 without a fishing license or trout permit. Regulations for Arkansas waters apply; daily limits and slot and length limits must be observed.

Visit one of our four state hatcheries for the annual fishing derbies on Free Fishing Weekend! These events are for families; all adults and children must register prior to the derby. Bring your fishing gear and bait along with chairs, water, sunscreen and snacks. There is a limit of three fish per person.

Friday's are for Fishing!

Join us every Friday in June for Hey, Let’s Go Fishing at Access 5 in Craighead Forest Park. We will be there with poles and bait (while supplies last) from 9:30-11am. This access is for youth 15 and younger and adults 65 and older. Parents may assist children 15 and younger, but must have a fishing license. Registration is recommended.

ASU student, Abby McIver, has been trapping turtles at the Nature Center for several months. She now has enough data to present her findings to the public and also let you get your hands dirty with some turtle trapping yourself. During this program on June 5th, she will go over what kind of turtles we have in the area, how to access their health, and the best habitat practices to keep these animals safe and happy in their environments. After a short discussion, the classroom will shift to the outdoors where participants will assist with trapping, measuring, weighing, and ID’ing the turtles for further research needs. Registration is required for this program and it is open for all ages.

Join AGFC professionals in a crash course on Saturday, June 6th for firearm shooting techniques, handling, cleaning, and storing. Starting at 9am, this course will be a great introduction to fi****ms for a beginner or even a nice refresher for those out of habit. We will be walking each participant through the mechanics of handguns, shotguns, and rifles. All supplies will be provided. Although not a part of the course, each participant will receive a day pass to use at the Jonesboro Shooting Sports Complex after the course to further sharpen your new skills and knowledge.

This course is recommended to those 16 and above and registration is required. The completion of Hunter Education is strongly encouraged.

This training course is for new Fishing in the Natural State Sponsors. Training includes an overview of the curriculum and requirements. A kit will be provided including rods and reels, tackle, and a classroom set of various support materials. The entirety of this course will take place in the Meeting Room and registration is required. This training is for traditional and non-traditional educators and is a requirement for SoCL schools. You will also receive ADE approved 3 hours of Professional Development Credit.
