Sea stretching to the horizon.
Ancient stone weathered by centuries.
An island small enough to walk…yet vast enough to change you.

Iona doesn’t ask you to hurry.

It asks you to notice.
The wind.
The waves.
The quiet voice beneath the noise of everyday life.

When was the last time you became still enough to hear yourself clearly?

Sea wind.
Ancient stone.
The feeling that something sacred is waiting patiently.

Iona, Scotland isn’t a place that demands attention.
It invites listening.

What if the next step on your journey isn’t to push harder…but to become quiet enough to hear the call?

Pilgrimage begins when we stop asking: “Where should I go?”
and start asking: “What is calling me?”

Some places don’t change who you are. They help you remember.

What journey is calling you right now?

I first heard about Thirlestane Castle in Lauder, Scotland when I was about four years old.

That’s when I learned about my Scottish ancestry. My whole life I longed to travel to Scotland and see this castle.

That dream became reality in 2014. I was so overcome with emotions, seeing the place I’d heard about all my life, that I sat outside for a while taking it all in.

I visited the castle again in 2017, 2019 and 2025. However I’ll always remember my first glimpse of Thirlestane and what I felt.

What place did you dream about, hear about, for years before you saw it?

When most people think of Washington, DC, their minds immediately go to marble monuments, bustling political hubs and world-class museums. But there is a hidden side to the nation’s capital that traditional tourism often overlooks: it is one of the greenest, most park-rich cities in America.

Beyond the concrete and history, DC offers a masterclass in how urban design can live in harmony with nature. In fact, over twenty percent of the city is dedicated to parkland, meaning you are never more than a short walk away from a natural sanctuary.

For travelers who crave exploration but also value a mindful, nature-centered lifestyle, DC’s green spaces offer the ultimate travel hack…a chance to step beyond the open door of standard sightseeing and truly decompress. Here is how the city’s green infrastructure transforms a typical trip into a wellness getaway:
• The Ultimate Cool-Down Effect - Trees and plants release moisture into the air and provide a literal “cool-down effect” for the surrounding neighborhoods, making a summer stroll through the city incredibly refreshing.
• A Sanctuary for Mindful Decompression - DC’s vast green pockets invite you to slow down and practice a bit of friluftsliv…the outdoor philosophy of embracing fresh air living.

Where to Find the Best Green Escapes:
• Rock Creek Park - a massive, two-thousand-acre forest cutting right through the Northwest quadrant of the city.
• The U.S. National Arboretum - a true hidden gem featuring four hundred and forty-six acres of stunning gardens and meadows.
• The National Mall & Constitution Gardens - home to famous landmarks, the Mall itself is a spectacular expanse of public lawn.

Next time you visit Washington, DC, don’t just pack your walking shoes for the museum floors. Pack them for the dirt trails, the sun-dappled lawns and the quiet riverbanks. By weaving these natural sanctuaries into your itinerary, you will discover that the true soul of the city.

Machu Picchu feels like that.

The climb asks something of you.
Your breath deepens.
Your legs burn.
You pause more than once to take in the mountains rising endlessly around you.

And then suddenly…you’re standing above the clouds beside ancient stone that has endured for centuries.

You feel a shift.
You realize that not every meaningful journey is meant to be easy.
Some paths are sacred precisely because they require effort, patience, endurance and trust.

And perhaps that’s true in life too.

Sometimes the climb itself changes you long before you reach the summit.
You become stronger.
Softer.
More present.
More grateful for the view.

Machu Picchu reminds you that perspective is earned one step at a time.
And when you finally reach the top…you understand that the person who began the journey is not quite the same person standing there now.
