Slowboat

Slowboat Boating in the Pacific Northwest Slowboat is about putting the journey above the destination. It is about exploration. Join us in exploring the world by water…

It is about enjoying independence and self-reliance instead of canned, pre-packaged experiences. It is about encountering adventure where it lives. It is about having the curiosity, confidence, patience and preparedness to strike out into the unknown. It is about making your life extraordinary – by seeing, hearing, touching, tasting and smelling the world in new and exciting ways.

More whales, and another incredible sunset (probably due to wildfire smoke, unfortunately):

From Kanish Bay (after sleeping in and having a leisurely morning with coffee on the flybridge), we pulled our anchor around 11:30am and motored toward Seymour Narrows. Afternoon slack was around 1:10pm. We arrived a bit early and had a nice boost of current pushing us through, around a very slow-mo...

We're now south of Cape Caution and it's still July!

We cruised from Pruth Bay down to Fury Cove on Sunday, hoping that the conditions forecast for Cape Caution the following morning accommodated our desire not to have to wait until the better window -- five days later. Fury Cove is a gorgeous stop. White sand/shell beaches, a beautiful view out into....

This morning we slept in, made breakfast, and got a nice relaxed start to the day. Very nice after the very long day yesterday (64nm or so) from Rescue Bay to Lewall Inlet. Today we cruised just 8nm or so down to Pruth Bay. Kali left a couple hours before us, and they were all

We could have stayed several days in Khutze Inlet, especially with weather like this! But we're all about the miles right now, so off we went. Yesterday's cruise was forty-something nautical miles to Rescue Bay, and then we got out for some dinghy exploring and some fishing. Kevin caught a nice size...

Incredible weather for our stop in Khutze Bay! (and a bear!)

Khutze Inlet is always a favorite stop, and not just because we usually see bears, but because the scenery is just so insanely beautiful. Add a blue sky and bright warm sun to that equation and...well, you'll see. We anchored Airship next to the tall waterfall...dropped the anchor in about 100 feet....

Another new-to-us anchorage: Hawk Inlet on Fin Island (and humpbacks!)

Another new-to-us anchorage: Hawk Inlet on Fin Island (and humpbacks!)

Fin Island is a remote, uninhabited island southwest of Hartley Bay -- completely off-grid, only reachable by boat or float plane, and home to a BC Whales Research Station that overlooks Squally Channel which is a prime whale-watching area. It is part of the Lax Kwil Dziidz/Fin Conservancy, and is t...

We left the dock in Meyers Chuck early! We planned a ~65nm day all the way down to Kah Shakes Cove with a pit stop in Ketchikan to mail a package and top off with fuel. (A 5:30am departure meant we didn't order cinnamon rolls from Cassy to be delivered warm to Airship at 7am.)
