Tidal Tuesday! When checking the tide, check different locations because low tide at the inlet isn’t the same time for low tide everywhere else. Today’s tidal lag from the inlet to sawfish bay park is almost an hour and they aren’t very far from each other.

The U.S. Coast Guard's 2024 Recreational Boating Statistics 2024 report is now available. Here are a few takeaways:

👉The report records the fewest boating fatalities since the Service began collecting statistics more than 50 years ago.
👉Fatalities fell 1.4% to 556 from 564 in 2023, while overall incidents increased by 1.1% from 3,844 to 3.887. Nonfatal injuries increased 2.1% from 2,126 to 2,170. Alcohol continued to be the leading known contributing factor in fatal boating accidents in 2024, accounting for 92 deaths, or 20% of total fatalities.
👉Paddlecraft accounted for 26 percent of fatalities in both 2023 and 2024 but Stand-up-Paddleboards (SUPs) grew from 2 percent of fatalities in 2023 to 5 percent in 2025. These numbers fluctuate from year to year, but the increase in SUP fatalities underlines the need for the AUXPAD outreach to include the SUP community.
👉Drowning was by far the most common cause of death for paddlers:

Canoe 84%
Kayak 87%
SUP 90%

We must continue to emphasize the importance of wearing a life jacket in our outreach to paddlers.
