Typically, inside back cover of a U.S. passport is the barcode page that contains a linear barcode encoded with your personal information.

Taking a photo of the barcode page and store safely before a trip .

This is crucial if your passport is lost or stolen abroad. The barcode number is needed to secure an emergency replacement and the photo can help embassy or consulate officials quickly retrieve your passport record and issue an emergency replacement more efficiently.

Leave a copy with family or friend as backup!

FYI - new carry on rules for 2026..

* Carry on suitcase must not exceed 22X14X9 inclusive of handles and wheels, I just measured my AWAY carry on and inclusive of wheels is 24” X14X 9 before I open the expansion zipper, which I always do!

*Maximum weight is 17-22 lbs depending on the aircraft. Yes they will weigh it at the gate!

*Personal item must lay flat under seat in front of you. They will eye ball that overpacked back pack and immediately make you check your carry on suitcase!

*Gate checks may be random but if checked they will make you check your carry on if all this is not met!

Note: This is not a TSA rule, it is an airline rule to speed up boarding time and eliminate the carry on chaos. So you could make it all the way to gate, chill till boarding and then get stopped as you go to scan to board!
