I believe in promoting young peoples' interest in hunting. If you bring your son or daughter, age 13-16, and he or she hunts with you under your supervision, there is no charge beyond your purchase at the adult price . Age 17-18 hunts at half the adult price. Limit, one discounted youngster. www.alaskablackbearstalkers.com

I'm often asked if there is color phase in S.E. Alaska black bears. This bear is interesting for its color. It appears browner to the eye than this cell phone photo shows, and had brown pigmentation in the pads of its feet. It isn't color phase, per se, but this coloration is not often seen. This bear was taken early in May, a cold month this year. so the brown color is not the result of rubbing.

I just went down to the beach and caught two 16 inch cutthroat trout for supper. Anyone can do this at slack water, most of the year. Two or three nice trout got off, because I was too relaxed. I used a red Super Duper that cost 99cents online.

After a great Spring Season, full of new friends and exciting hunting moments, I've added the Salt Water Fishing Guide license. By fall, a 2nd skiff will be on hand as the loaner and I've beefed up the "Rock Grinder," the skiff we go to the beaches in, to distance it from the old saying, "A boat is only as good as its pump." Not that the pump hasn't always been good.
