Exciting things are happening! 😃🏀🏐

A groundbreaking day for Kalamazoo County! 🏀🏐

The future Kalamazoo Indoor Sports Facility is officially underway!

This isn’t just a new sports venue. It’s a major investment in Kalamazoo County’s visitor economy—a project that will help put Kalamazoo on the map for regional and national sporting events while creating a significant impact throughout our community.

When complete, the 140,000-square-foot, tournament-ready facility will feature eight full-size basketball courts convertible to 16 volleyball courts, a 200-by-85-foot indoor turf field, team and flex rooms, and spaces for athletes and spectators to gather.

And the impact reaches far beyond the facility itself.

🏨 An estimated 36,000 incremental hotel room nights each year
💲Projected $48 million of annual economic impact
🤝Over 600 new jobs
🏀 More opportunities to welcome regional and national tournaments
📈 Long-term growth for Kalamazoo County’s visitor economy

Sports tourism is already a significant contributor to our community, and this facility represents an exciting opportunity to build on that momentum.

Discover Kalamazoo is proud to be part of this milestone alongside the Kalamazoo County Event Center Assessment District Authority, Rockford, AVB Inc., TowerPinkster, Hurley & Stewart, The Sports Facilities Companies, Kalamazoo County hotels, Southwest Michigan First, Kalamazoo County Government, The City of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Oshtemo Charter Township, Road Commission of Kalamazoo County, and all the community partners who helped bring this vision to the groundbreaking stage.

Today was about breaking ground—but it’s also about looking ahead to the thousands of athletes, families, coaches, fans and visitors who will one day walk through these doors and experience Kalamazoo. We can't wait to welcome them starting in Fall 2027!

This summer, 5 Free Street Hockey Camps will be hosted at Kalamazoo's Upjohn and LaCrone Parks from June to August. The Kalamazoo Wings Hockey Club and NHL Street are partnering together again to bring kids in the community an opportunity to have fun and try out a new sport for free!

Currently, five (5) camps are scheduled in Kalamazoo for Summer 2026. Kzoo Parks will partner again with the K-Wings and offer free registration, jerseys, sticks & swag bags to qualified Kzoo Parks Summer Camp youth (ages: 7 to 12).

Organized by the Sports and Events Management Club at Western Michigan University, this is a great opportunity for students to connect with employers in the Sports & Events industry in Southwest Michigan.
