Rock Canyon Fire Update: Do NOT fly drones near fires!!! Even when the location allows drones: fires make drones ILLEGAL!! BLM and Kaibab National Forest Service are issuing this statement and reminding you fines apply to those that ignore this regulation.

Drones interfere with fire suppression and put our crews at risk. Please: Respect our firefighters and our lands.

THANK YOU to the men and women fighting the Rock Canyon Fire in our beautiful backyard. It is their bravery and dedication that protects our lands and the people who love them.

Currently we ARE still guiding safely to the Wave, White Pocket, and South Coyote Buttes. Our guides are in contact with our office with critical updates: even in the field. This is one way we keep our guests and guides safe.

Please note the latest closure information: The South of UT/AZ state line. BLM Road 1065 (House Rock Valley) – not to include Road 1065 – south to where the road intersects the Kaibab National Forest boundary just north of BLM Road 1017.

The National Forest boundary north, then west, then south to U.S. Hwy. 89A
U.S. Hwy. 89A northwest to BLM Road 1026.
BLM Road 1026 north to the UT/AZ state line.
This closure also includes BLM Road 1025 (Winter Road) from U.S. Hwy. 89A to BLM 1065.

Stateline Campground IS included in the closure.

What in the “out-of-this-world” are we looking at here?

Our stellar photography guide was recently out at White Pocket with her big camera and captured Air Glow illuminating right along with the core of the Milky Way! This is a common phenomenon that occurs in our dark skies. It is constant and all over the world; powered by daily solar radiation. It is very faint (about one billion times fainter than the sun) and is usually only visible to the naked eye under extremely dark skies or with long-exposure photography.

The green color here indicates airflow occurring about 50-60 miles above us!! Have you ever seen air glow?

Join us for a sunset tour out in the desert or our new Star Stories tours: where we view the night sky locally in Kanab. This tour is complete with telescopes and technology that gets us deep into space to view nebulas!
