2025-26 LEADERSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

Dr. Kathy Page has been hired as the new director of Keewaydin Discovery Center.

"Dr. Page's extensive leadership experience, passion for inclusive education, and commitment to fostering strong family relationships will be instrumental in advancing the mission and vision of Keewaydin Discovery Center," stated Director of Special Services Lexie Buschbach.

Dr. Page currently serves as a continuous improvement partner for the Office of System and School Improvement through ESD 123 and as a principal certification intern supervisor for Gonzaga University. She has held both roles since 2023.

She brings more than 25 years of experience in education, including leadership roles as executive director for school leadership and accountability and MTSS trainer in the Yakima School District, and as a continuous improvement coordinator in the Toppen*sh School District. Page has also served as an elementary and middle school principal and special education director in multiple school districts.

She began her career as a preschool through fourth grade teacher in the Central Valley School District.

Dr. Page holds a bachelor’s degree in special education and elementary education from Central Washington University, a master’s degree in educational administration from Whitworth University and a doctorate in educational leadership from Gonzaga University.

Superintendent Shout-out to Keewaydin Discovery Center!

"Kudos to the Keeywadin Discovery Center (KDC) Koalas! The creative and caring KDC staff provide preschoolers with individualized support as they learn essential communication and kindergarten-readiness skills. This week, I enjoyed visiting the classrooms of Mary Sue Kelly, April Burnham, Tyson Childs and Jessica D’Aquila (all pictured), together with Program Coordinator Dr. Kelley Rutherford. Thank you to entire KDC team for all you do to support our youngest KSD learners!"

Schools Start Two Hours Late Today - Wednesday, February 5

Due to weather and road conditions, the start time for all Kennewick schools will be two hours late today. There will still be an early release for grades K-8. Early release for grades 9-12 is canceled and moved to next Wednesday, February 12.

The following programs are canceled:

-AM ECEAP classes
-AM Keewaydin Discovery Center classes
-AM Tri-Tech Skills Center classes
-AM athletics, music and activities
-Zero-hour classes
-Morning breakfast

Other updates:
-Buses will pick up students two hours late. For example, if your bus picks up at 8:10 a.m., it will now pick up at 10:10 a.m.
-Online programs at Mid-Columbia Partnership and Endeavor High School start two hours late.
-YMCA child care sites open at 7 a.m.

Las escuelas comienzan dos horas tarde el día de hoy

Welcome to KDC Dr. Rutherford!

A skilled leader with extensive experience in special education has been chosen as the next coordinator of Keewaydin Discovery Center.

Dr. Kelley Rutherford will replace Kate Armitage, who's retiring.

“Kelley brings a drive and passion for improving outcomes for our special services students. She also has a strong knowledge of our continuum of services and a proven ability to collaborate and problem solve. We’re thrilled to have her join our team," said Lexie Buschbach, director of special services.

Dr. Rutherford joined the Kennewick School District in 2016 as a physical therapist, and she added behavior specialist duties in 2021. She also served as a summer school administrator for special education in 2022.

Before joining KSD, she worked as a pediatric physical therapist at KidSPOT in Kennewick and as a clinic manager and physical therapist at Oasis Physical Therapy in Pasco.

She holds a doctorate of physical therapy from the University of Las Vegas, a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Washington State University in Pullman and a principal certification with a special education director emphasis from Heritage University in Toppen*sh.

Mr. Robert Knight from our transportation department might have some special connections with Santa and got him to come over to pass out presents for our preschoolers. A big thank you to the S.H.A.K.E. organization for providing the gifts.
