DONUTS: Glazed Donuts- Best Key West donuts. You may have to wait in line to get their deliciousness but it moves pretty quickly. I love the map inside where there is a push pin representing where all of their guest are from. Flavors change daily.

NUMBER 1 RESTAURANT: Red Shoe Island Bistro. This restaurant opened its door in April 2020. With the onset of COVID it was a terrible time to open but they were proud that they “kept the island fed” when Key West was closed down. We go here at least once a year and since 2022. I was so proud to see that they were recently named KW #1 restaurant.
I had shrimp and cheddar grits stuffed poblano and also Grouper. Not photographed was our deviled eggs with a scallop on them. The Lavendar cheesecake is still amazing. Congrats Red Shoe Island Bistro .

SHARK and wildlife adventure tour is one of our favorite activities in KW. A father and son team will take you out for 2 hours. These Lemon sharks have gotten familiar with the sound of the boat and show up for their feeding. We easily saw about 25 sharks. The son will dangle a plump fish from a fishing line and the sharks will try to eat it. We were also driven to a spot where dolphins had been spotted and got to watch many dolphins frolic in the water. The father and son team are the only ones doing this in KW. They were great and take safety very seriously.

Did you say LOBSTER. We enjoyed both Caribbean lobster and Maine lobster this weekend. MISO HAPPY is an amazing Thai restaurant in KW. We had panang curry with lobster and also a lobster tempera roll. In addition to great food, great atmosphere and staff. At THE SEASIDE CAFE we had the lobster pizza and a strawberry pecan salad with a scoop of lobster salad. Seaside Cafe is right on the ocean just down the street from the southernmost marker. Excellent food, drinks and atmosphere.

Was saving our first visit to the key west butterfly observatory for a rainy day. That was finally today. I was so impressed with this place. It’s the best butterfly garden I’ve ever been in. They had so many different butterflies from all over the world. The gardens were amazing. They also had an incredible bird selection. I’ve never seen such beautiful birds. Another thing, the quantity of butterflies was immense. You could feel them flapping by and sometimes they landed on you. Wonderful day.

KEY WEST FIRST LEGAL RUM DISTILLERY is a fun place to stop by for a drink and a free tour of the distillery. They offer free rum tasting — I think there were 6 choices of rum. There was a coffee flavored rum and a key lime flavored rum. It was a great place to hang out on a hot afternoon. We tools these gorgeous drinks with us as we walked through Key West on a hot afternoon. They specialize in Pina coladas and pour your rum choice on the bottom and also a floater on top. Delicious.

REEF FISHING EXCURSION: Have take two trips with Fish Monsters. The package is 5 hours of fishing, all bait, they help you take the fish off the hook, keep your catch on ice and clean it for you when back to shore. We caught yellow tail snapper, strawberry groupers, grunts and a few other fish. We brought our catch home and made fish tacos. The boat ride takes you out about 1.5 hours, then you start fishing — they move to three different locations then we head back. Soda, beer and light snack are available .

The La Grignote bakery will provide one of the best ice coffees in Key West. This device sits outside of the bakery. The ice is melted by the Florida heat and drains into the coffee grinds and the ultimately into your cup of iced coffee. The result is delicious.

Thoroughly enjoyed myself at Zachary Taylor beach yesterday. $2.50 admittance gains access to the Fort and the beach. This post is about the beach. FIRST, this beach is a half mile walk from Peachy Keen. IMO this is the best Key West beach. The beach is lovely and you get a different view to the naval operations that are adjacent. I went here to check out snorkeling. It was good and I definitely saw some fish and the coral was nice too. There are 6 areas where rocks piles are in the water and this is where you see the fish hang out. I only explore 2 out of the 6 areas. The beach is a mix of very soft sand and rougher coral pebbles. Aqua shoes would be good. The beach rents umbrellas, chairs, hammocks, lounge chairs for a fee. Peachy Keen has some chairs you can carry on your shoulder in the Cabbana. There is a concession stand for typical concession food and Pepsi oroducrs but I saw a Coke vending machine too. There are also flushable toilets!!! Yesterday had a Spring Break vibe. Photos aren’t great but wanted to try to capture the snorkeling points.

Enjoyed the Key West Botanical Garden today. They were having a plant sale. They also had some educational stations set up where we got to see several different caterpillars. Look close in the photo to see the yellow one. Butterflies were everywhere. We bought a milkweed plant . The one the garden had was being worked on by several monarchs at one time. Also enjoyed seeing about 10 turtles floating about. Lovely day.
