The shallow waters north of the Lower Keys are called the “back country.” Navigation is its own sport heading out there to the Snipes, and locals often improvise when proper channel markers are missing. In a 1977 excursion, Jimmy took the warning sign seriously enough to explore the shoal and pop a cold bottle of “adventure fuel.” Just another day when the wind and the water were free.
