Key West is losing workers. Not just hotel and restaurant staff but skilled laborers. Citizens Windstorm Insurance company is canceling policies unless we get new roofs and the roofing businesses are losing staff to ICE. This is bad on so many levels.

NEW: KEY WEST CITY COMMISSIONER CALLS FOR SPECIAL SESSION ON ICE PATROLS

A group of local residents, business owners and community leaders released a statement on recent immigration enforcement actions in Key West:

"Our community stands in support of documented immigrants who contribute daily to the cultural and economic fabric of our island," the statement reads.

"We are deeply concerned by reports from business owners and religious leaders that individuals with documented legal status—including green card holders and those with recognized work authorizations—have been detained or removed from our community."

"These actions have instilled fear among families, deterred residents from attending religious services, shopping for basic necessities, and even sending their children to school."

Commissioner Sam Kaufman sent the statement to me. He wants a special session for the commission to take up the issue at City Hall.
