This chair…

It’s going to stay with me for a while.

A simple piece of furniture—yet it once sat front row to the earliest chapters of our nation’s story. Inside the House of Burgesses, it witnessed the debates, the disagreements, the bold ideas of men like Jefferson, Patrick Henry and others as they wrestled with what this country could become.

When fire threatened to destroy it, someone chose to save it. They understood it was more than just a chair—it was a symbol.

It’s humbling to stand in front of something that feels so ordinary, yet held such extraordinary moments. A quiet reminder that history isn’t just found in grand monuments… sometimes it’s sitting right in front of you. 🇺🇸

A truly special day in Colonial Williamsburg 🇺🇸

Walking these streets on the eve of our nation’s 250th birthday just feels different. There’s a deeper appreciation knowing this is where bold conversations happened, difficult decisions were made, and the foundation of our country was laid.

From the cobblestone paths to the historic buildings, you can almost feel the weight of history—and the courage it took to create something entirely new.

Grateful for the opportunity to experience it, reflect on it, and share it ❤️

A little baking adventure this week! 🧁

We’re getting ready for a campground dinner for our guests, and I’m on dessert duty. Turns out my convection oven is amazing…but not quite as roomy as my Florida one—no second rack means baking one tray at a time 😅 Which means I baked approximately 4,782 trays one at a time 😅 But we made it work and all the cupcakes are done!

Even more exciting…my first ever from-scratch gluten-free, dairy-free chocolate cupcakes 🙌

And because you can’t travel without snacks, I whipped up some lemon blueberry muffins too—also gluten- and dairy-friendly for our guests.

Small oven, big batches, and lots of love baked in 💛

I’m catching up, Mary Ann Grace! ✨

Yesterday we explored the historic grounds of the Wright Brothers Memorial, and it was absolutely fascinating. Standing in the very place where flight began really makes you pause and think about how far we’ve come since those first brave attempts in 1903.

The memorial is beautifully done, with markers tracing each of the four flights from that December day. I loved learning that each brother took a turn piloting—such an incredible piece of history brought to life right where it happened.

They also had artifacts from the original plane on display, along with a replica of the aircraft they used. The launch rails have been placed in the field, and four granite markers show each of the flights and the distance traveled—such a powerful way to visualize those first moments of flight.

Definitely a must-see if you’re in the area! ✈️

We saw everything on the water today—wind surfers, kite surfers, and then this next-level setup that had us doing a double take 👀

Picture this: a small surfboard with a deep fin, and a sail with inflated chambers attached at the rider’s waist. When the wind caught it, the sail floated behind them like a kite… but without the long lines. Wild to watch and honestly pretty impressive!

Even better? Most of the riders looked 50+ and absolutely crushing it 💪

Proof that adventure doesn’t have an age limit 🌊

If you are in the OBX visit Fort Raleigh in Manteo-it’s a stop that really makes you think.

This historic site dives into the mystery of the Lost Colony, where some of the first English settlers vanished in the late 1500s. It’s also the birthplace of Virginia Dare, the first English child born in the New World. The exhibits and artifacts are fascinating, and the visitor theories about what happened? Some are surprisingly creative—definitely worth checking out.

Fort Raleigh is also home to “The Lost Colony,” the longest-running outdoor theater production in the country, performed here since the 1930s. Fun fact: a few well-known actors have spent summers on this stage—Andy Griffin was shown in a picture of a performance

Beyond the colonial history, the island also played a role in offering refuge and a path to freedom for many enslaved people. check out how!

The grounds are beautiful, easy to walk, and well marked—perfect for a relaxed but meaningful day of exploring.🌊

Made it to the iconic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and nearby weather station today—and wow, the history here runs deep. 🌊

This is the very spot where the only known Titanic distress call in the U.S. was received. Even more incredible? The original handwritten note was discovered years later tucked inside a wall during renovations… used as insulation!

The lighthouse is currently undergoing restoration, so it’s wrapped—but honestly, it’s still an impressive sight. Learning about the engineering behind moving the entire structure away from the encroaching shoreline was fascinating.

The area’s WWII history is just as powerful. In 1942, German U-boats referred to their attacks along this coast as “Turkey Shoot,” sinking ships at an alarming rate—sometimes one per day.

One of the coolest things to see? A preserved piece of the original lighthouse foundation beam—submerged for over 130 years and still holding strong with minimal damage.

Storm was rolling but we did manage one more stop to the Bodie lighthouse…temps dropped quickly from the 79s to real feel in the 40s!!!

So much history packed into one stop. Definitely worth the visit! 🐚

A quick but fun trip to Myrtle Beach…part 2! We had the best surprise to find some dear friends from our Alaksa trip lived super close to our campground so they stopped in for a super short visit…sadly! But we were so glad we got to see them and their sweet doggo Moose!!!
We enjoyed some shopping and had a delicious meal with our guests before heading over the Alabama theater for their show ICONIC! It was fantastic…singing…juggling and acrobatics. It was a super fun evening. Sadly the stop was short but another place we will head back to! I know many of you love to go here and I can see why!!
