Beach carts... For years we've watched people bring thin wheeled beach carts to the beach and struggle with them. Today we saw a nice elderly gentleman pulling one who fortunately had a strong son who took over and got it done, So I figured I'd post about it. The Outer banks beaches are large grain loose sand. Balloon tire carts will help make your trips to the beach MUCH easier, and help get you through the hot sand faster. Yeah they cost more, but are well worth the cost. Our 13 year old grandson easily pulled a packed 52 qt Artc deep freeze cooler, 3 chairs, an umbrella, the beach bag of many things, and a sun ninja tent today. he blew by the nice folks pulling the thin tire beach plow.

This is a slightly smaller version of what we use. https://a.co/d/jaVOSRn

It's been a crazy hot June. Looking at the weather it looks like we might get a break just in time for the 4th of July. Hoping that happens and cooler weather (mid 80s) sticks around. We hope you all have a great 4th of July with family and friends.

Ironically, in 1870 his father Bishop Milton Wright is quoted as saying, "If God had meant man to fly, he would have given him wings." and stormed out of a Methodist convention in the Dayton area of Ohio, with his 2 sons. ...And wings (although not what the good bishop expected) they were equipped to have.

“For some years I have been afflicted with the belief that flight is possible to man…”
—Wilbur Wright, May 13, 1900

This month marks 125 years since Wilbur Wright wrote those words in a letter to engineer and mentor Octave Chanute—a quiet beginning that would change the course of human history.

In that letter, Wilbur confessed a growing obsession with flight, calling it a “disease” of imagination. He shared his dreams, his doubts, and his intention to begin experiments. There were no blueprints for success—only a sky full of questions and a mind unafraid to ask them.

The journey from this letter to the windswept dunes of Kill Devil Hills took courage, humility, and community. The Wright Brothers didn’t work in secret—they built with transparency, generosity, and fierce intellectual curiosity.

Today, we honor not just the flight—but the letter that launched it.

Join us in the Visitor Center to see the words etched in the exhibit and carried on the wind. And ask yourself:

What dream are you brave enough to write down today?
