Passports and Real ID: What You Need to Know for Domestic Travel After May 7, 2025

URGENT: PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION IMMEDIATELY. With summer just around the corner and families preparing to travel, it's CRUCIAL to get this reminder out without delay.

Passports and Real ID licenses. As of May 7, 2025, you will need either a Real ID or a Passport to fly domestically within the United States. That’s right—your regular driver’s license won’t be enough for air travel anymore.

A Real ID is a special identification that meets federal security standards and is marked with a star at the top of the card. To get one, visit your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and provide necessary documents to prove your identity, U.S. citizenship, and residency. If you don’t have a Real ID by the deadline, you won’t be able to board a domestic flight, so it’s important to plan ahead.

If you’re a frequent flyer or traveler, I highly recommend opting for a passport. It’s not just for international trips—if you’re on a cruise and happen to get injured or miss the ship in a foreign port, you’ll need a passport to either return home or catch up with the ship at the next port of call. Given these scenarios, a passport is an invaluable travel document. It’s easy to apply for, and processing typically takes about 6-8 weeks. Expedited options are available if you need it sooner.

For those who already have a passport, now is a good time to check its expiration date. Many cruise lines and countries won’t allow you to enter if your passport expires within six months of your travel date, so don’t forget to renew it ahead of time.

Whether you choose a Real ID or a passport, be sure you're prepared for your travels after May 7, 2025. Both are great options, but having a passport is often more versatile for those who travel frequently. Make sure you’ve got your documentation in order to avoid any disruptions on your next flight or cruise!

Locally, it can take a significant amount of time to secure a DMV appointment, and the wait for a new license can be even longer. So please, if your future travels include flights double check you have what you needed and if you need to apply for a Real ID or passport, then act fast!

The life of a travel agent is a bit like a never-ending adventure — I’m here around the clock, because let’s face it, people travel every day of the year, and sometimes a last-minute emergency pops up. Since my clients are scattered across the country and even in different time zones, it means some late nights are part of the job. My mornings are filled with webinars and briefings, trying to stay ahead of the latest travel trends. Whether it’s a Sunday afternoon or a Saturday night, when someone is ready to book, I’m on call.

Funny enough, after retiring from the Post Office, I never imagined my new routine would be 9am to midnight — but here I am, loving every bit of it. I’ve been in the travel game since 2008, but it wasn’t until I retired that I could give it my full attention… and sometimes, double time. Yesterday, while I was in church, I took a moment to reflect and thank God for the opportunity to do what I love and provide for my family. I also prayed for each of my clients and for something truly special — that their journeys would be filled with joy and blessings. Honestly, I adore my clients and the work I get to do as a travel agent. Each of them means so much to me.
When it comes to booking your travels, my goal is always to make it as special as possible.

Anyone can hop online to book a cruise or vacation these days, but as your agent, I’m here to go that extra mile. I’m your advocate if anything goes wrong, and I keep up-to-date with all things Carnival to make sure your trip is made a little bit extra spcieal simply by booking with Caribbean Soul Travel..

Now, here’s the cool part — you don’t pay anything extra for the service or expertise of a travel agent. The commission is already built into the cost of every cruise fare, regardless of whether you use a travel agent or not. So, you can either let that built-in commission go to a corporate giant, or you can use it to support a small business and get personalized help with all the details, from booking to troubleshooting. The price is the same either way — the difference is the value you get in service!

Every now and then, I get messages asking for advice on trips that people have already booked on their own, and that's a tough spot for me. I don’t get paid unless I book the trip, but I still want to help. Sometimes, I need to gently guide folks back to whom they booked with so I can give my full attention to my wonderful clients. After all, I don’t receive a weekly paycheck from the cruise lines – I work purely on commission, which means if the trip doesn’t happen or wasn’t booked with me, I don’t get paid. It’s a little reminder that no one loves working for free.

In 2024 and 2025, I was honored to be selected as one of just 10 travel agents in North America to represent Carnival as a Carnival Independent Travel Agent Ambassador. The selection process came from some of the top Business Development Managers in the industry. The opportunity has opened so many doors for me and has been the greatest honor of my travel agent career. Part of my role is to help answer questions and motivate over 27,000 fellow travel agents in my “free” time, so I guess you could say I’m in a Carnival state of mind from the moment I wake up until I close my eyes at night. But honestly, I wouldn’t trade it for anything... well, maybe a cruise (just saying, haha). In the past year I have also gotten to know the other 9 Ambassadors who are nothing short of AMAZING. .

Anyway, just wanted to take a moment while I had a little break to share a bit more about myself. I know this was a long post but thanks for reading!

⚠️ SCAM ALERT: FAKE CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBERS TARGETING CRUISERS & TRAVELERS! ⚠️
My travel tribe, we need to talk about a scam that’s making the rounds and costing unsuspecting travelers hundreds of dollars. Scammers are buying up Google search terms and creating fake 800 numbers that appear to be the customer service lines for cruise lines, airlines, and vacation companies.
Here’s how it works:
🚢 A guest has a question about their cruise or vacation.
🔍 They do a quick Google search for “Carnival Customer Service” or “Royal Caribbean Phone Number.”
📞 They call what looks like the right number but is actually a scammer.
💸 The scammer asks the right questions to sound legitimate—then claims the guest “owes” $200-$800 before they can proceed.
💥 And just like that, money is gone.
How to Protect Yourself (and Your Clients!):
✅ Go directly to the official website of the cruise line, airline, or travel provider to find their contact number.
✅ If a rep ever asks for an immediate payment to “proceed” with your request—HANG UP. This is not how real customer service works.
✅ Book with a trusted travel advisor (like me! 😎), and we can verify any issues directly with the correct contacts.
✅ If in doubt, call your travel advisor first—we can confirm if you’re dealing with the real company or a scam.
Many well-meaning guests assume Google search results are safe—this is how scammers are cashing in.
