Sailing Resolution Offshore sail training passages and expeditions based on judgment, seamanship and adventure

Turn your sound up for this one. She’s puffed right up. Glad I’m not offshore right now.

How and when to make judgment calls when passage planning is a nuanced topic. My two cents is this low was going to make for an entirely very type 2 fun kind of trip.

Type 2 fun is a term we use in the climbing world a bunch and it pretty much means it’s not fun in the moment, but only after you’re siting at the bar bs’ing with your buddies afterwards with the adventure in the rear view mirror a ways did it seem fun.

Anyway, these lows very often over perform the forecasted wind speeds especially near the stream and are not to be taken lightly. Even with a full crew and not solo this kind of weather is not to be taken lightly.

Thoughts on Bermuda and passage planning. planning

05/25/2026

This is a VERY abbreviated overview of how I plan a stream crossing and our Bermuda trips, but hopefully gives some insight into the basics of what I’m looking for and thinking about. This new technology is amazing.

Sailing single handed to Bermuda since we had to cancel the trips due to our documentation and the government shutdown. Now we have our documentation, but it’s too last minute for people to book. So I’m going to keep my skills sharp, get some time offshore and because why not? Can’t break the Bermuda tradition because of our incompetent government. Probably getting out of dodge after the weekenda d looking forward to some long days staring at waves and clouds. I’ll keep ya posted!

We sail with dozens of people every season and teaching basic safety practices to drill into muscle memory begins on day one. Loaded up sheets on a 40 or 50 foot boat can be thousands of pounds of tension. Quick and easy way to keep the deck of your boat safer.

Our first trip of the season is over. A great intro to coastal cruising or just an all around great adventure not far from home. As the season progresses the trips get longer and more challenging. Next trips are our offshore sailing trips to Bermuda and back. These trips have become tradition at this point and offer everything in regards to bluewater sailing.

Bermuda is going back on the calendar! Thanks to our federal government it’s been a whirlwind with the shutdown and not being able to renew our documentation, but somehow it’s here today. Just in time before it expired and 3 months late.

All canvas is on and we moved over to the Hudson River Maritime Museum for a little bit. If you’re walking on the waterfront walk feel free to stop down and say hi!

First trip is May 7th - 12th. Kingston, NY - New Bedford, Mass. and there are a couple open bunks left. If you miss this one we added two more of these trips to our schedule this spring.

I’m sorry that I have to post this here, but silence is complacency.

On Resolution and other boats I’ve worked on politics often comes up and really it’s a great forum to discuss differences in opinions on things in a civil manner.

Unfortunately, we are beyond this being political and this is now the difference between right and wrong. I can no longer tolerate nor have anyone aboard my vessel that supports what is happening in the current regime. By supporting the current regime you are defacto telling me you are ok with s*x trafficking children, murdering US citizens and general human rights abuses at the hands of our government. If I lose business because of it, so be it. It’s better known beforehand than me not being able to bite my tongue offshore on day 5 when I guarantee neither you or I will be happy about it.

There is no more room to “live and let live” anymore.

I apologize to my international followers and customers that your timeline has to be polluted with this horrible picture, but things like this need to be shown. Too many people living in their “I don’t follow politics bubble” and they need to see it here in the U.S.

If you disagree with my sentiments…well as of now it’s still a somewhat free country unless you talk negatively about the regime and I’m sure someone else will take you sailing.
